It was a pleasure to Co-Q with Troller this morning. I love this site. There are so many cool features to explore all over downtown Durham. If you haven”t made it out here, you need to check it out.
Welcome back Bunyan (renamed to Big Sky), who made his F3 debut at HoP yesterday, and came back for more today. We had to give him a different name due to reports that Churham already has a Bunyan. Big Sky crushed it two days in a row!
Troller got us started with the Warmup:
SSH x 25
Good Mornings x 20
Merkins x 10 cadence count
Calf/leg stretch (in honor of T”eo)
Mountain Climbers x 20
The Thang
Troller led us over to the now regular pull-up location for the Bull Pen, compliments of CrossFit Durham. Before leaving the launch site, each man picked up two bricks, which were carried the entirety of the workout. Carrying the bricks started out as one of those “this isn”t too bad” and by the end, most of our forearms were screaming. In teams of 3, we completed the following routine three times, so each Pax completed 30 pull ups:
Pax 1: 10 pull ups
Pax 2: Spotting Pax 1
Pax 3: SSH while holding a brick in each hand.
YHC took over from here and led us down Foster St. past Central Park, up to an unnamed parking lot that is also a nice hill, which is bordered by a mural-covered brick wall that screams for balls to the wall.
We completed balls to the wall while each PAX counted to 5. Some counted more slowly than others (damn you!) and I believe our impressively cultured and educated group counted in 5 different languages. After balls to the wall, we then sprinted to the top of the parking lot, backwards ran back down, and then low hold plank for 10 seconds. We did another round of balls to the wall, crab walked halfway up the parking lot, and finished it with running up and back down. 10 seconds of low hold plank again.
From here we travelled south to the home of our namesake, the Plaza where The Bull lives. We circled the Bull in ceremonial fashion (noting Riggs was at the rear end). We completed the following exercises:
Dips x 20
Squats x 25
Dips x 20
Durkins x 15
From here we began the journey home, taking a different route, heading north on Riggsbee. Just when everyone (still carrying bricks) thought we were headed back for Mary, a beautiful, empty parking lot caught my eye. (Side note: do you guys now see walls, stairs and parking lots, etc. with a different eye? I find myself seeing a random bench and thinking “looks like a great place for dips”. That is the great thing about this site. The options are endless.). The parking was perfect for suicides. We completed one full round of a classic suicide with sprints…down and back 3 or 4 times.
We made it back to the launch site at 0615 sharp with no time for Mary. As always, thankful for the opportunity to Q and be with this awesome group. Aye!!
