One Grinding Moment

March 15, 2021

WHEN: 03/15/2021
QIC: Cosmo
PAX: Big Kat, Slug, Boucher, Champ, Dogwood, Nightshift

Didn’t plan it this way, but just so happened to grab the Q at Kenan during the first week of March Madness. So really had no choice but to theme the workout on UNC’s impressive overall track record in the NCAA Tournament.

No one bothered with EC other than Nightshift’s warm-up jog. Probably just as well.

After a very brief warm-up, we moseyed to the Dean Dome. Champ kept the mumblechatter, aka guy talk, high on the way, as is his custom.

  • Started off with five burpees and then a little more preamble. This didn’t suit Champ at all, so we went ahead and did 15 more burpees.
  • Then 5 slow merkins IC, for the 5 times Carolina was runner-up in the tournament
  • 20 burpees
  • 7 star jumps for the number of national titles (Boucher counted the 1924 consensus national championship in answering this trivia question correctly)
  • 20 burpees
  • 11 jump squat for total number of appearances in the Final
  • 20 burpees
  • 17 LBC IC for the number of times UNC earned a No. 1 seed
  • 20 burpees
  • 20 WWII – for the record number of Final Four appearances (Slug is a quiet font of UNC basketball knowledge. Didn’t volunteer the answers until it was clear the rest of the PAX were stumped.)
  • 20 burpees
  • 50 hand-release merkins for the total number of NCAA appearances, not counting the one the team just earned (Nightshift wondered aloud if anyone knows the number of beers YHC has consumed over the years while watching UNC basketball. NASA is still calculating that one.)
  • By this point we had done 120 burpees. Tacked on another six for the 126 total NCAA wins.

Mosey back home. These PAX are fast, so we had lots of time for

MARY

  • WWII X 126
  • Flutter kick X 50 IC
  • Heels to Heaven X 20 IC
  • Then six more burpees as a good luck charm for a possible miracle run in this year’s tournament. Stranger things have happened.

COT

Continued prayers for Lee Fitch and his family and caregivers. Plug to help Dean Wormer reach fundraising goal for his dog’s surgery. Lots of generosity already shown. Update from Big Kat re: COVID. Amazing to have this sought-after expert in our ranks! YHC took us out.

MOLESKIN

Strong and spirited group, great way to start March Madness week. Heard Champ on the radio previewing Wisconsin and possible Baylor match-ups a little after 0700. Crushing burpees and live hits before most people are out of bed! Now if he’ll only start asking Roy my annoying fanboy questions, we’ll really be in business. Go Heels! Aye!
