9 PAX shrugged off the silent sanctity of the fartsack to pay homage to Peach and Cooter. Shedding a few tears for our absent brethren (who are on a mission trip, T-claps to them), we carried heavy hearts – and also many other heavy things to cope. 50 man-makers, 100 burpees, and about a mile of farmer”s carries later, each PAX appreciated that decision deep somewhere in his soul, though his muscles certainly regretted the decision in that moment. Feeling a little heavier on our feet, what with a few pounds of water weight redistributed from out bodies to our clothes, we picked up the rest of the crew (24 in total) and boogied on down to the bottom of the hill to kick things off.
It”s easy to get caught up in an all-or-nothing mentality with F3 as much as it is with anything else. Extreme binary thoughts can be pretty destructive, “you”re with us or against us, this week/month is shot because of X, Y, Z, if you are not first you are last.” The list goes on and on. The major issue with this type of thinking is that it inhibits action and in fact exonerates us for our laziness and indecision. It also begets frustration and, for some, sadness. The issue with setting goals in general is that you can often feel as if you exist in a state of perpetual failure. Many will tire before they reach the goal as a result, and those that make it there often feel like they have suddenly lost purpose and direction. YHC writes this only as a reminder, as much to himself as to others, to appreciate the moments you have and remember why we do what we do. What finish line are you really striving for, and does it really exist? There is no finish line. It is all about the moment. Win each moment, get better, make progress for the sake of progress. Do not let great become the enemy of good, or perfection the enemy of action.
