YHC checked the weather before hitting the fartsack Tuesday night and it looked like rain was going to happen. What else was going to happen? Suckage and nastiness was going to happen, that”s what. It”s one of those times when you have a plan but your brain scrambles to figure out a way to make the suckage less, well, sucky. However, you finally come to the ultimate realization that there is no way to get out of being wet and nasty and you drift off to sleepy land accepting your fate. Acceptance turned into enthusiasm for the suckage and hence the term ”embrace the suck,” which Marky Mark has told YHC over the years, finds meaning. Also, you end up rucking with some punks who make you feel like a puss if you don”t wallow in the mud and make everyone else do it too.
3 brave men weathered the rain for an XL EC ruck around SV and were met by the rest of the PAX eager to get wet and nasty. The following is a true story, names have been changed to protect those involved…

Time to make sure everyone is nice and soaking wet and embracing the suck.
V-up roll over merkins x20 (getting the front and back saturated in water and grass and suckage)
On the field there are 2 orange cones evenly spaced out and a row of benches at midfield.
Line up along the end line for some animal movements and burpees/merkins/squats
1) Lizard walk to midfield – 5 burpees at each cone – 10 jump over bench burpees at midfield
2) Crab walk to midfield – 20 squats at each cone – 10 jump over bench burpees at midfield
3) Bear crawl to midfield – 20 merkins at each cone – 10 jump over bench burpees at midfield
4) Snake to first cone – (that”s all, cause it”s hard, it sucks)
Game Time: SPUD
PAX gather in the center of the field…
1 man throws a ball up in the air and calls out another PAX’s name while the rest of the PAX sprint as far away as they can. The Man who was called catches the ball and yells ”SPUD” and everyone else stops running. Man with the ball throws it at another man and calls out an exercise(burpees, squats, merkins, you know the drill). The man who gets hit with the ball does the exercise while the rest of the PAX bear crawls/crawl bear back to the middle. Repeat for 10 minutes.

My dad and I did a lot of road biking on Saturdays when I was a kid. I spent a lot of time with him and we had a great bond as we shared that together. We went all distances throughout Orange county and beyond. When I got tired I would ask my dad how much further and lot of times he would say, ”It’s just around the corner.” I couldn’t keep track of how many corners the end was around, but trust me it was a lot and it rarely was just around the corner. My dad knew that I could keep going and if he gave me something to focus on then the pain and fatigue wouldn’t be so bad. Also, I think he just wanted to go further, but he knew I could do it and pushing me forward would help me in the long run. As we go through life there are times when the end seems like it”s just around the corner and we”ll never get what we”re trying to achieve. If you keep pushing through and tell yourself it”s just around the corner then eventually you”ll get to the end and the struggle will be worth the push.
