Many years ago when YHC was in school, we had a little celebration in the classroom whenever someone had a birthday. To make sure no one got left out, we celebrated 1/2 birthdays for any kids whose birthdays were during the summer and not during the school year. It was then that I realized my 1/2 birthday (March 6th) also happens to be the actual birthday of Grandpa Brotox (aka my dad). Ever since, YHC has always thought of his 1/2 birthday when it comes around.

For today’s workout, YHC thought it would be a good idea to repeat the birthday routine we did 6 months ago. Added bonus: the full moon this morning helped brighten the night sky and offset the fact that Daylight Savings time yesterday put us back into the dark for our workout. We took advantage of the full moon to get out of the parking lot for some of the workout and down onto the soccer field.

Warm Up

  • High Knees x20 IC
  • Radish Pickers x10 IC
  • Willie Mays Hayes x10 IC
  • Spiderman Merkins x10 (think peter parker with merkin)
  • Scorpion Dry Docks x10 each leg (carolina dry dock with one leg up and over your 6 like a scorpion tail)
  • Arm Cirlces, Forward and Reverse x10 IC each

The Thang

Thang 1: Mosey down to the soccer field for a pyramid with the following four exercises: 1) Spiderman Merkins x10; 2) Prisoner Squats x20; 3) Scorpion Dry Docks x10 each leg; 4) Freddy Mercuries x20 IC:

  • Exercise 1, run a lap around half the soccer field (half birthday, half the soccer field, get it?)
  • Exercises 1, 2, run a lap
  • Exercises 1, 2, 3, run a lap
  • Exercises 1, 2, 3, 4, run a lap
  • Exercises 2, 3, 4 run a lap
  • Exercises, 3, 4 run a lap
  • Exercise 4, run a lap

Thang 2: Mosey to the parking lot for a Single Leg Burpee Team Race–teams of 5, each PAX performs 5 one-legged burpees while other team members held plank. First team to finish wins, turns out we all lost.

Thang 3: Mosey to the brick pile for a quick hitter of 10 curls, 10 lateral raises, 10 front raises, 10 overhead presses, 10 bus drivers (IC), 10 overhead presses, 10 front raises, 10 lateral raises, and 10 curls. Return bricks and mosey back to the parking lot for Mary.

Mary

Around the world Merkin (4 merkins, lifting a different limb off the ground after each merking) ring of fire while other PAX hold plank. A second ring of fire (4 regular merkins) while PAX held low plank. A third ring of fire (4 regular merkins) while PAX held star plank.

Have you ever noticed than anyone driving slower than you is a moron and anyone driving faster you is a maniac? Life is all about perspective. It’s easy to believe that our view of the world, our perspective, our truth is the truth and anyone with a different perspective must be wrong.
