February is the official start to Mardigras and I thought we would have some fun with this theme.

Warmarama- SSH, Arm Circles, WMH, Michael Phelps, We all know that New Orleans and Mardigras can put a hurting on you so we decided to do some twerkin. The twerkins are a downward dog pose with two humpers and roll through to a cobra pose. We did 10 of those.

The thang- We moseyed over to the parking lot where cinderblocks are located.

In New Orleans style- we had some Professor Longhair playing and we did tabata style exercises through the following spelling.

N.- Nemo with the block- don’t let your hands off the block and flip-flop between, chest press, urkin and blockee. It’s a new favorite and once you get through the awkwardness, it gets the heart rate going,

O- Overhead press

L- Lunge out front and out to the side with the weight

O- Butt offs- this is something I made up and while in theory it should be easy but the triceps start to burn after about 15 seconds

V- V-ups with the weight

E- Elevated Homers- both legs, one leg up and one leg down

Rinse and repeat

I wanted to give the superbowl some love as well as the favorite NFL QBs the Manning brothers as New Orleans sons. We did some block hikes in sequence and then block hikes quick back to start. Tough to show in a backblast but those that were there would say these are worse than the monkey humpers and like a backwards murder-bunny.

I wanted to make sure everyone knows each other so we had a flashing football that we passed around and had to catch. Any dropped passes resulted in a burpee and we all learned that we don’t belong in the NFL. It was easy enough to get the heart rate up with some burpees and a flashing light-up football.

Time for circle-ups and making King Cakes. For those of you who don’t know, the King Cake is one of the staples of Mardi-gras. King cake is a ring of sweet pastry that’s covered in lots of icing and purple, yellow, and green sprinkles or luster dust. Some folks make their king cake more like a bread and others prefer a more cake-y version—there’s no right or wrong way. Most are usually flavored vanilla, cinnamon, or some cream cheesy combo. But they’re always round with a hollowed out center—think of it like a crown that you could put on your head if you were feeling particularly festive. For us, we did a ring of squats and side lunges followed by 10- IC crab cakes.

Time for an extended Mary- we got back in our circle and with J-Los movie coming out and the rediculous idea that a movie star would marry a Joe Schmoe- we did some A-rods. Though we discussed they probably should be called Ben Afflecks part twos- the pax did 2 pickle pounders combined with the J-Lo wobbles. And Mardi-gras is all about the forgiveness of sins so we did some absolutions to beg for our forgiveness of the upcoming exercises.  To close out our New Orleans theme, we did some Hurricane Hoedowns which is flutter kicks in four different positions, back flat, up on elbows, straight arms, sitting upright and arms overhead and walk back down. Finally, in Mardi-gras style we had a ring of fire and some shirtless merkins to earn our beads. One for the books and lots of laughs and work was done. Until I see you all next time, thanks for coming out.

COT- Please remember Yurt and his family during this difficult time. There are several events in the near future including the Milawi run for children on 4-23. Please sign-up. It is important and thanks for all the laughs today and may the Big Q up in the sky forgive us all for all of our trespasses.
