Like a Rug on Valium

I’m so lazy I took lessons on a player piano. Lazy, you’re not kiddin’. I’m like a rug on valium, I’m talkin’ lazy.

Trying to heed the recent callout for PAX to get more consistent with backblasts, but there ain’t much to this one.

Inspired by Peppermint Pattie and some other OGs, lately YHC has been more about keeping things very simple – a few good exercises that hit all muscle groups, and lots of reps.

Running is not my favorite right now; dealing with a plantar thing. Hence, for today’s festivities, YHC busted out my version of a Lazy Dora*, which is like a regular Dora, but with no running. (Treehorn at one point pondered aloud the origins of the term Dora. Anyone know?**)

After a brief warm-up, which included 5 burpees not related to anyone’s tardiness, we moseyed to the front entrance of DPAC, just because YHC likes that place and misses it.

Partnered up and as a pair knocked out the following:

  • 100 burpees
  • 200 merkins
  • 300 jump squats
  • 400 (almost) WWIIs

The one wrinkle added was that if there was a disparity in the number of reps between two partners, the low partner would do merkins to match the difference while the high partner did squats. So if one partner did 60 burpees and the other did 40, the 40 PAX would do 20 merkins and the 60 PAX would do 20 squats.

That was only implemented once as far as YHC could tell, with most partner sets agreeing to an equitable split of the reps, which was really the main point of adding that contingency anyway.

Those WWIIs were taking forever, so YHC cut it off at about the 350 mark and then as partner sets we knocked out another 50 burpees.

Then moseyed back to City Hall for a 10 merkin ROF and, finally, to get us to an even 100 each, everyone completed 25 more burpees oyo.

One PAX noted that we did 5 burpees in the warmup, seemingly in hopes of getting a reduction to 20 burpees. Not to be. We’re all stronger for those extra five.

COT

No announcements or prayer requests. Somehow we got on the topic of TBL, which is enjoying a bit of a Renaissance. Check it out on Saturdays if you haven’t been in a while.

YHC took us out.

MOLESKIN

Honey Badger is a bit far afield for YHC so don’t get there as much as would like. It really is amazing to have all of downtown as your playground. Strong crew today who grinded this one out with determination and good cheer. We all agreed that Lazy Dora is something of a misnomer. Aye!

*UPDATE: What we did wasn’t really a Lazy Dora. Here’s the exicon definition:

An estranged and despised relative of Dora 1-2-3. Partner up. Partners perform 100 Merkins, 200 LBCs, & 300 Squats as a team. Here’s the catch…no running. P1 starts with 10 Merkins while P2 planks, then switch. Continue switching between Merkins and plank until 100 total Merkins reached. Next, while P1 does 20 LBCs, P2 performs a 6″ leg hold until P1 is finished, then switch. Continue switching until all 200 LBCs are completed. Finally, P1 does 25 squats while P2 does squat hold, then switch. Continue switching until 300 total squats are completed.

**Bellhop advises that Dora is named after the cartoon explorer of note. His hypothesis is that the runner PAX is the explorer. Will research further. UPDATE 2: Bellhop was half right.
