“Just some Good Guys”

August 20, 2018

WHEN: 08/20/2018
QIC: Sussudio
PAX: Quimby, Hickory, Chum, Griswold, Flenderson, Marky Mark, Stubbs, Yanni, Skynyrd, Rambler, Boyardee, Mothman, Germ, Zook, Doobie, Grunge, RG3, Duplo, EZ Pass, Tardy (FNG), Subprime, Mumbles.

As I sat at my desk last night soaking in the last vestiges of a weekend and looked at my upcoming week on the calendar, anxiety quickly took hold. Every now and again, I, like you all, have a week that I just do not enjoy. This is one of those weeks. Work is too busy, the kid just won’t sleep, the dog threw up out of nowhere, and I accidentally ripped the faucet out of the sink.

The last three I just listed all happened last night at midnight. It’s one of those weeks you just want over before it even starts.

On top of that, I had to Q this morning. Don’t get me wrong, I love Q’ing. It makes me drunk with power, which at this point in my life is the best kind of drunk. But last night I really didn’t want to bother with even going to the Thicket this morning.

But then I got a text from Boyardee about running to the AO and doing pull ups before the ME. Naturally I agreed (because peer pressure). Think about how crazy that sounds to a normal person.

“Hey man, before we do that really aggressive workout, would you like to do a really aggressive workout?”

“Can’t argue with that logic, shall we meet 3 hours before everyone else wakes up?”

So Subprime, Kosher, Boyardee, Marky Mark and I were all doing pull ups at 5:20AM. Before we did a boot camp. Step out of your perception if you do this regularly and think about how insane that sounds. Quick shoutout to Subprime who basically let me sit on his shoulders like I was his kid and he was letting me see the parade over a crowd for the last 30 pullups. Now think about how insane it is that other people were doing a Ruck or at the Jungle or even showing up at 5:45AM in a school parking lot for a Monday morning workout. What a group.

The point of this story is, 23 dudes started their week off by doing something insane, so the rest of the week shouldn’t be that big of a deal.

The Thang:

Me moseyed over to the soccer field and got into groups of two for partner dora. One partner would sprint the short side of the field and up the hill before backpedaling back. The partners would complete 150 Merkins, 150 WW2’s and 50 burpees together. Once completed, we moseyed to the far side of the soccer field and bear crawled across finishing with 30 merkins. We then partner carried twice across the field stopping for a total of 60 more merkins. At this point, grumblings were beginning to be more numerous so we stopped for a full 30 count.

We counted off to four and headed to the 4 corners of the field. Each group completed 30 Jump squats, 50 LBCs, 30 Merkins, and 15 burpees while sprinting to each station.

We then moseyed off to our Everest, the long road next to Woods Charter. Pointing at an arbitrary lamp post about .3 miles away I offered the group a choice. One, you could sprint to the lamppost and back, or you could, as a team complete 200 Derkins. With about 75% of the group already running before I finished the offer, the groups split up. Upon returning to the starting point, I informed the groups we would switch and the derkins group started running while the original runners completed 200 derkins.

COT:

Pretty much already said in the intro but starting the week off in the mud with a good group of guys provides a ton of pretty good perspective. Appreciated the opportunity to lead today. I would like to see everyone continue to challenge themselves like they did this morning. Hopefully, subprime only has to push me for 20 pullups next time.
