As YHC anticipated attending the Canes’ matchup with the rival Capitals on Friday night (a 4-3 loss, alas), inspiration struck for today’s TBL beatdown: Current Canes coach and former Stanley Cup-winning captain Rod “The Bod” Brind’Amour. He earned his nickname by being the hardest working guy on and especially off the ice. Legend has it they used to have to lock the gym at night when he was at Michigan State to keep him from getting his swole on at all hours. Undeterred, he simply broke in.

Brind’Amour amassed a total of 1,295 points, regular season and playoffs, during his long NHL career. So we set out to do a rep for each one of those points. Pre-blast indicated PAX could look like this at the conclusion of the hour. Can’t speak for anyone else, but totally worked for YHC. #jacked

50 merkins, modifying to hand-release and/or knees as needed, WWII X 50, 50 merkins, WWII X 50, 25 merkins, 25 WWII, 25 merkins, 25 WWII, 100 overhead clap SC = 400 reps

Mosey to one half-field corner – 25 jump squats, 25 squats, 25 heels to heaven IC, 25 SSH IC at each half corner = 100 reps
Alternated 25 jump squats and squats at each corner for next round = 100 reps
Last round, 50 squats, 50 squats, 50 jump squats, 50 squats at each corner = 200 reps
Rod never skipped leg day!

Mosey to rock pile
Rapid fire rock sets: Overhead press, Ginuwine, Rows, Curls X 25SC X 4 = 400

That left us with 60 reps. Intended to do burpees with those but ran out of time.
Instead, we did one AYG sprint up the hill, a nod to Brind’Amour’s habit of cranking the incline all the way up on the treadmill and running as fast and as long as he could. (Mind you, hockey guys do their workouts immediately after their games.)

Moseyed back to the field for the last reps: 50 flutter kicks IC and 10 burpees oyo.
Voila, 1,295 reps. That was for you, coach!

Lots of good mumblechatter today, as the PAX were in high spirits. Believe everyone still got their money’s worth. Nothing like hard work with a smile. This F3 thing is pretty #awesome.
