Grudge Match on the Horizon

YHC was excited to finally come to downtown Durham and Q the Honey Badger, Durham’s “other” Friday workout.  YHC thought long and hard about how to put a beatdown on the Northern Durham PAX. After Qing DR and TBD the past few weeks, one thing was certain, leave the gorilla crawls at home.

 

Warm-Up:

  • Smurf Jack
  • Strawberry? Pickers (front to back & left to right)
  • Merkin and Plank Walk combo
  • Pudge Rodriguez (named it myself) – Get into a catcher squat, and jump up into a throwing position with your non-dominant leg as the lead leg.

 

The Thang:

Jacob’s Ladder at City Hall.  Start with 10 burpees and 1 jump squat, and make your way to 1 burpee and 10 jump squats.  PAX also had to bunny hop up the stairs each time they cross a set. Held a people’s chair against the wall until all PAX were finished.

 

We then grabbed two 35 lb KBs and made our way to the plaza level of DCRI.

At the plaza level YHC split the group into two teams that would hopefully prove to be of similar speed.  Teams started on opposite sides of the plaza. One teammate would take the 35 lb KB and run a lap around the plaza attempting to catch the runner from the opposite team.  When they finished their lap, they would pass the KB off to their next teammate who would then continue the chase. The chase continues until one of the teams is caught by the other.  YHC saw a challenge similar to this on an episode of Survivor years ago. Team members who were not currently running would be completing an exercise that the current runner would select.  Team Soda Popinksi defeated Team Knope and 10 burpees were handed out to the losers and 5 burpees to the winners. For round 2 we put the KBs away and did a backwards run. Team Knope got their revenge as Chowda made a diving lunge from a backpedal for the W.

 

Time was running short, so we grabbed the coupons and made our way back to City Hall.  No time for the grudge match today.
