In October, the lunch lady at Parkwood Elementary ran over my admittedly poorly placed speaker, ruining my carefully curated Halloween playlist and making me real mad and stuff. Castaway, sweet mensch that he is, replaced it the next day, and it was his gift that allowed me to bring tunes to today’s proceedings at TR.
But what tunes? Started putting together a Christmas playlist, trying to find upbeat and HARD ROCK seasonal tracks, but songs were either too popular and therefore played out or obscure and weird/bad. (AC/DC’s “Mistress for Christmas” was particularly objectionable, and YHC loves AC/DC.)
Been watching the compelling Get Back documentary about The Beatles on Disney+ with the M, so switched to a playlist of some of YHC’s favorite Beatles numbers.
More important than the soundtrack was the fact that today’s workout was custom-made to allow our man Scapula to make his return from the IR after months away following achilles surgery. Still recovering, and it’s slower going than anyone likes, but he was assured of no running or jumping this morning so happily got back in the mix. Great to have him out in the gloom again.
Knope and Castaway got in a 2-mile ruck (YHC begged off knowing he’d be up late watching UNC basketball – 9:15 starts are bullshit) and Cardiac showed up early to do his usual running and jumping around. Just as well for him, because, as mentioned, there was none of that to be had during ME. It was advertised on Slack as “we will get swoll while we listen to The Beatles.” This promise was delivered.
THANG

MARY
Come Together played as we completed 30 flutter kicks IC with rock overhead and 10 WWIIs with rock.
Finished with rocks in our lap while we did Homer to Marge during Why Don’t We Do It in the Road?
Thank you, good night!
COT
Fiddlestick encouraged attendance at a charity lacrosse event this weekend in honor of one of his former players who died at 15 of leukemia. Barksdale will be officiating, so you may attend to heckle him if you like, though he could definitely kick your ass so don’t push too hard. Games are on Saturday 9am-4pm and Sunday 10am-2pm. Learn more and donate, or donate when you go.
YHC took us out.
MOLESKIN
Again, awesome to have Scapula back out, and he expressed his appreciation on slack afterward, noting that you can’t fully appreciate how great this thing of ours is until you’re deprived of it. Hope he’ll be able to get back out on the regular soon. Lots of mumblechatter this morning as hoped for and expected, but looked like everyone was putting in good work as well. Definitely a you vs. you deal today. If you contracted swolliosis, only yourself to thank. If you tested negative, that’s on you too. (Next time tho will go ahead and make it 20 of everything – live and learn.) Hope everyone enjoyed “rocking out” to The Beatles. I am hilarious. Aye!
