Frosty Fingers & Recovery Burpees

November 16, 2017

WHEN: 11/16/2017
QIC: My Little Pony
PAX: Brick, Kia, Floyd, Cardiac, Heisenberg, Slow Pitch, Bones, MLP

One of my favorite/less favorite workouts is Peach/Cooter man-maker EC at the Falcon.  It’s non-stop, it’s punishing, and it you feel pretty damn accomplished after you complete it.  Knowing that most TR regulars have probably never gotten to experience it, YHC decided to relocate the man-maker factory to Herndon Park for today.

Warm-up

Mosey to the turf soccer field & circle up around the center circle

SSH x 20 (IC)

WM x 10 (IC)

IW x 15 (IC)

Merkin Ring of Fire – PAX bear crawl around the circle until YHC calls halt at which time everyone moves to plank position.  Hold plank while one at a time, each man completes 10 assigned merkins.  So, each PAX got in 10 merkins and held plank for an additional 70 merkins.  Repeato with bear crawl to plank and ring of wide grip merkin.

YHC planned this to go on for 2-3 additional rotations but after 2 rounds, fingers were numb and YHC couldn’t tell if his gloves were wet, just cold, or both.  Fearing more exposure could effect the grip strength needed for The Thang, YHC called it and led a mosey back to the playgroup where (4) 5-gallon gravel buckets awaited.

The Thang

3 exercises completed for one circuit:

  • 5 dead hang pull-ups (includes a 5-count dead hang in-between each rep)
  • 10 burpees
  • Grab a 5-gallon gravel bucket and bear hug it.  Carry from playground down to center picnic area and back to playground (If no buckets available or if you were sick and tired or carrying a stupid bucket of rocks, PAX could alternately run a lap around the peanut)

YHC heard various mumblechatter throughout that echoed my sentiments each and every time I tackle Peach & Cooter’s devious creation. “This one is no joke.”  “Great idea. I’m hating every minute.”  “I’m going to cut a whole in the bucket and let rocks sprinkle behind me like bread crumbs.”  The Love/Hate ratio continuously vacillating with each circuit.  Floyd said it best, “The burpees are my favorite part.”  You know you’re doing work, when you’re dreaming of the sweet relief of recovery burpees.

Our goal was 6 circuit for all PAX and it was achieved with many PAX getting in a bonus 7th for good measure.

We retired the buckets for the day and circled up at the shovel flag for MARY.

Prayer Requests

Lo Pair as he continues to recover.  Inspiring to hear that he is already back posting!

Prayers for all PAX and families traveling for Thanksgiving.  We ask for safe travel and peaceful holidays for all with family and friends.  Floyd also shared a story of a plastic surgeon who recently celebrated his retirement with a party on his last day of employment and then tragically passed away the next day.  Nothing in life is promised, so enjoy each and everyday to the fullest.
