16 PAX showed up in the gloom to the ReCity parking lot. It had been about a month since YHC was able to make it out to North Durham, so there were a lot of new faces. Really good to see North Durham blowing up. Today it was going to pay to be a winner. This would really ring true later on when it was time to name our FNG. More on that later.
Warm-Up:
YHC promised Riggs there would be no SSH, but Riggs didn’t post so we started with SSH. The rest of the warm-up included the windmill, imperial walkers, reverse lunges, and the slow merkin.
The Thang: Feats of Strength and Willpower
Funny Money lead us to the pull-up bars for some friendly competition. PAX split into groups of 2 or 3 by pull-up ability. We would see how well they did this based on the results of the competition. One group gets onto the bars and has a max pull-up competition. Losers do 10 burpees and perform a hill sprint. Winner rejoins the rest of the PAX which will be doing different leg or core exercises. While the losers are still running the next group can go ahead and start.
Once all groups have gone, dead hang competition followed by a pull-up hold competition.
Observations and Results
- Mounds dished out some humble pie to YHC as he pulled out 18 pull-ups.
- Our FNG and Sal Pal both went a perfect 3 for 3 in their comps.
- Screech has ridiculously long arms.
- Watching Moore and Assisi in direct competition was a thing of beauty. Moore won the pull-ups with 30, but Assisi would battle back with successive victories. Guess it also pays to not to have to hold up a lot of weight.
- T-claps to Soybean for voluntarily being in a group with Moore and Assisi. He definitely held his own against the two.
- Angry burpees are not fun burpees.
Cross-fitters started pulling in at 5:56, so we got out of there before questions could be asked. Jog back to ReCity for some work with coupons. YHC had pre set-up his Seconds App for a little bit of Tabata. PAX were instructed to grab a coupon of their choosing. There was a little bit of scrambling to go grab bricks and cinder blocks. Loved how the PAX switched off with the coupons so they could all feel the burn. Got in 3 Tabatas!! Shoulder press with the 45 lb kettlebell is no bueno.
- Swings
- Shoulder Press
- Squats
Mary:
No time left for Mary, but we worked our core while watching the feats of strength and willpower.
COT:
- Named our new FNG 3-Peat. As mentioned at the top, it pays to be a winner. He won all three of his competitions against the PAX that I believe brought him out.
- Continued prayers for those affected by the Hurricanes both domestic and abroad and to all the people suffering in Las Vegas.
- Get everyone on Slack to keep up with all the happenings of F3.
