Fake it until you become it

January 24, 2018

WHEN: 01/24/2018
QIC: Nescafé
PAX: Sussudio, Dueling Banjos, Bright Idea, Duplo, Nanu Nanu, Closer, Rambler, 8-Bit, ICE, Gomer, Beanbag, John Boy, GTL, Marky Mark, Germ, Topper, Golden Pinky, Sisyphus, Tuck

Hard to believe that it’s been only one month since YHC’s last Q at The Rabbit. Since then, YHC has posted at a couple of AOs in New Orleans (F3NOLA), a few times around some of the new F3Churham AOs, but has been mainly immersed in other activities, including Christmas celebrations, family travels, the beginning of a new year at work, and snow shoveling – of course – which have made it hard to leave the house. The result is that it feels longer than a month, and YHC did not feel in the best shape to lead a group of men that were clearly stronger than he was. Thus, YHC wanted to bring a Q that was as much of a challenge to the PAX as it was to himself. And what better way to do it than with a workout that our brother Chum heard about when he posted at Baywatch (F3CapeFear) and delivered at Paradise a few months ago calling it ‘beautifully simple’ (you can read the BB here: https://f3churham.move-marketing.net/menage-a-dora/). As the clock marked 5:45, 20 PAX circled up and were down to business.

The Thang

In groups of 3, Man #1 performs upper body exercise at one end of the parking lot while Man #2 performs a lower body exercise at the other end of the parking lot. Man #3 starts at Man #1, sprints across to Man #2, returns to his start point, and then sprints back across and relieves Man #2 and picks up his exercise (just like a typical Dora except that running three times the length of the parking lot before relieving the next man). Man #2 then performs the same “across-back-across” sprint and relieves Man #1 and picks up his exercise/count. Man #1 becomes the sprinter, and the routine continues until the specified reps for the upper and lower body exercises are met. (Note: there were two groups of 4 PAX, in which case 2 PAX acted as conjoined twins and stayed together, performing the same exercise).

Round One: 300 Merkins and 300 LBCs

Round Two: 200 Hand-Release Merkins and 200 WW2

Round Three: 100 Burpees and 100 Jump Lunges (each leg)

BOM:

Thanks everyone for posting and special thanks to Chum for this idea. YHC was a bit intimidated to lead this workout, so he remembered a time back in the day when he was starting his job and was intimidated by public speaking. His wife pointed him toward a Ted talk by Amy Cuddy. I invite everyone to watch that talk (see below). The bottom line of that talk – and what applies to situations like leading a workout with men who are stronger than you are – is that you have to fake it until you make it. Cuddy goes further and adds a little twist to it: fake it until you become it. YHC encourages every man here to take that mantra into their personal lives and apply to those aspects where they feel intimidated by the challenge so they embrace that challenge and finally overcome it (or become it). Until we meet again in the gloom. Aye!
