Crushing Cinders

September 17, 2018

WHEN: 09/17/2018
QIC: Nubbin
PAX: Cortes, Milton, nickelback, offshore, pusher, Toast_McQueen, and Nubbin

Like many of you (I’m sure), by Day 2 of being cooped up at home my family was getting stir crazy and had to get out of the house – wind and rain be damned!

So with rain boots and jackets on, YHC and his 2.0s headed for the small creek in the woods behind our home. We spent the mornings and afternoons all weekend building damns in the creek and hunting for crawdads, turning an otherwise miserable-weather weekend into a great family adventure.

The act of carrying heavy rocks while wading through rivers inspired this morning’s soggy workout in the Northern Province.

Seven eager PAX showed up at The Rock this morning, heeding the late-night Slack call to “bring weight” (i.e., cinderblocks left over from the Iron PAX Challenge).

Together the PAX performed the following exercises:

Warm up

Twists

Seal claps (x15 in cadence)

Overhead claps (x15 in cadence)

Willie Maze Hayes (x10 cadence)

Low squats (x15)

The Thang

After the PAX were sufficiently “warmed-up” (and already soaked to the unders), YHC informed them that he had previously set an alarm to go off every 5 minutes, which would alert the PAX that it was time to perform a round of 10 six-count cinder burpees. At which time, the first of the alarms went off and we all performed our burpees in flawless unison.

Once complete, we lifted our cinders and Ricky Bobbied our way from the AO to the Community College Park & Ride. Along the way we alternated carrying the cinders over our heads and performed 2 more rounds of cinder burpees. During the third round of burpees, Nickelback’s cinder – now fully saturated with water – decided to implode and he was left with impressively carrying assorted pieces of his cinder for the remainder of the workout.

At the Park & Ride, the PAX lined up and, leaving their cinders (and pieces) behind, gorilla walked a quarter of the way down the parking lot and ran our way back. The PAX performed curls while waiting for the six. They then bunny-hopped half the length of the parking lot and ran back; again, performing curls while waiting for the six. Finally, they sprinted three-quarters of length of the parking lot and ran back.

With only just enough time remaining to make our way back to the AO we set out, with our cinders (and piece) in hand.

Along the way we stopped to perform several more rounds of cinder burpees. And, not to be out done by Nickelback’s imploding block, YHC’s cinderblock also crumbled while performing his burpees – and with lightening flashing in the background to add to the impressive nature of the whole event.

A total of 80 six-count cinder burpees were performed by all.

Mary

Once back at the AO, and with no time remaining, we circled up and held a plank hold through name-o-rama.
