The Thang
YHC had the intention of getting 5 miles in on tarmac in the gloom and steal some Strava segments. Turns out targeting segments was Grunge’s pet peeve. When you offend someone you actually look up to it makes you stop and think, YHC felt quite guilty about that. However, the mission was to pick a few key segments and power through them to get on the leaderboards.
YHC would highly recommend Strava.com, it’s free to join and provides a lot of good data on your running, cycling etc. Most workouts can be tracked on your phone and it is motivating to see empirical data on how you’re improving.
Notable events en-route included stumbling upon the ladies from FIA crushing it at the top of Constellation Park, one of the Pax joined them briefly to the sound of pearls being clutched and cries of “Coyote”! and the traditional chat of the ESP of one’s digestive tract when moseying near a bathroom and that Bright Idea may become an overnight internet sensation.
There was also discussion of a ‘Politeness Penalty’, if any pax say “Good morning’ to a passing dog-walker and they respond in the same 5 OYO Burpees have to be completed right there by all. Luckily we only encountered the famed Southern Hospitality once this AM. We ran this route around BC for 5.1 miles at 9:11avg/mile:
Mary-o-rama
- Cricket: LBCs
- Chum: Something dreadful
- Bright Ideas: Something equally dreadful
- Mothman: Something dreadful involving the pelvic floor
- Hornytoad: Something dreadful twice
- Gunge: No need to explain, f$%#ing dreadful
- Nescafe: 30 Seconds staring at the stars, hero!

YHC was after a good quote for the message and stumbled upon Confucius’ “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop”, he quoted it incorrectly however, the sentiment is there, pick a goal and just keep progressing towards it, you will achieve it.
AYE!
