The workout which occurred today had been rattling around in YHCs head for quite some time, but required a timing of training cycles and somewhat tolerable weather.  With many pax in full swing of Spartan Races and the BRR looming on the horizon, this seemed like the right time on the training part.  Looking at the forecast the day before, the weather called for cool temps and rain…not ideal, but close enough. Throw in some motivation by Sweats in his last newsletter where he essentially called out a challenge of tackling The Pine in excess of 3 times, (standard set in many Rameses ECs) and this seemed like the day to doll out some Pine Pain on the Pax. Ten hearty men showed up in the misty morning gloom knowing what to expect as YHC has thrown out some clues the day before.  But did they really know what was about to come?

Warm-up:

Fellowship pace run over to and to the bottom of Lone Pine with WMH & Good Morning x12

ME:

Lone Pine repeats to the very top.  When you hit the stop sign, don’t stop, turn around and continue back down to pickup the six.  A few words of advice were given “pace yourself” and we were off. On either the second or third repeat, a rather large SUV (presumably the paperboy) came barreling down the hill as we were making our way up.  Luckily, all the headlights and hi vis shirts the pax were wearing got their attention and the need for an ambulance was averted.  After repeat 3, the pax were given an option to opt out.  Instead, a continuous series of merkins, squat jumps, and WWIIs was to be performed in 10s at the top of the hill till all running pax returned.  On repeat 4, YHC heard a bit of mubblechatter about this being the last one and most of the pax took off like a bunch of cheetahs chasing dinner.  At the top a quick time check showed 18 minutes to go…plenty of time for one more round.   Before getting a word out half the pax were already hitting stride back to the AO, so the disappointment of one more round must have been mentally painful.

Mary (Cool-down):

Fellowship pace run back…until we hit Franklin St., then double time back to AO.  OK, so the formal cool down was a jog around the parking deck.  No time for actual Mary, besides we got enough ab work with all the heavy breathing.  Great push by everyone!  Over 5 miles and over 800 ft of climbing, most at a 15-20% grade.  The bar has been raised, who will tackle 6 trips up The Pine?

COT:

Trail run on Sat., time and place will be posted on Slack.

Prayers for those in Houston and the surrounding areas as Hurricane Harvey makes it’s exit.  As the waters settle, like the flooding and destruction, the need for assistance will be unprecedented.  Let’s do what we do best as F3 nation and help in any way we can.
