Carry Your Weight and Maybe Someone Else’s

November 28, 2018

WHEN: 11/28/2018
QIC: Griswold
PAX: Rambler, Flenderson, Zook, Bright Idea, Nanu Nanu, Nitro (Respect!), Gomer, Koozie, Griswold

4 PAX braved the elements for EEC ruck PT at 0430. 6 launched for a 0500 coupon ruck. 10 congregated in the cold for the ME. YHC took the Q on short notice with not much of a plan and some shiny new coupons in the garage. IN the pre-blast a new ‘friend” was promised to the PAX, turns out we got two. Not FNGs, but a couple of those coupons. YHC brought a couple of ammo cans down to The Big House, each filled with sand to an approximate weight of 25#s. Part of the inspiration for this idea was a Zok Q from a while back at the Wall where he had us all carry rocks and “not drop the soap…or was it cookie” either way, don’t drop it!

The Warmup:

Moved the start to the grass field by the pool:

SSH IC x 25

Slow Squat x 10

Slow Merkin x 10

Arm Circles F & R IC x 10

The Thang:

Quick explanation of the rules for our coupons. These coupons are our new friends, and as good friends we would never leave them alone (they would be carried at all times by a PAX, all exercises would be preformed while a PAX held or otherwise touched the coupon) and we would make sure they got a chance to meet everyone (all PAX would carry the coupons at some point in the workout, and ideally have to improvise a movement or two while holding onto the coupon).

Now slack has been abuzz with an exercise that we are all hoping gets an official name in the Exicon soon. It is basically a shitty way to get up stairs. In push-up position PAX place hands on first step, preform a merkin, then escalate to the next step. Repeat to the top without breaking push-up position.

Plank hold at top. Once all the PAX arrive lunge walk parking lot back to startex.

Now the PAX would pass one of the coupons around so that they could get a more intimate knowledge of each other. PAX partnered up and held squat back to back with partner. The coupon was passed from one partner to the other, and then pushed forward to the next pair. Coupon was sent down the line and back.

20 IC recovery merkins

Repeat the pass

20 SC recovery squats

Mosey to the long metal stairs that lead to the clubhouse YHC read about the Everest Climber last night, and with Nitro in attendance it seemed fitting. Everest Climber to the top and squat hold at top.

Mosey to the front of the clubhouse.

Merkin ladder to 10.

YHC also read about a fancy new 10 count from The Jag yesterday that Catskill introduced. It seems that you can use the 10 to count out burpees, so we did that. Great modification to the 10 count Catskill!

Mosey to the short steps by the pool.

Since we had done a Grizcalator, and a merkin ladder, the only logical next step was to combine the two. Eight steps total so the ladder went to 8. It was “fun”.

Before Mary began YHC couldn’t shake the feeling that we just hadn’t done enough lower body work this morning. Best remedy would be some lower body work:

Reverse Lunge IC x 20

Squat IC x 20

Gotta be balanced so 20 SC merkins.

Mary:

Flutter kicks IC x 25

LBCs IC x 25

Hello Dollies IC x 20 (Germ)

Merkin ring of fire x 5 (Thanks Flenderson!)

BoM:

The idea behind this workout was to emphasize a couple of points. First is, carry your weight. Second is, help carry the weight that may be saddling others. Most of us are burdened down with some extra weight, be it stress at work, financial issues, family problems, health related, or whatever else it may be. In F3 we have a phenomenal and readily available system built in to the DNA of what we do, but most of us have even more in our families and those 1 or 2 people we know that don’t do F3 (yet).

Keep a couple of things in mind. First, if you are carrying that weight on your shoulders, you have someone to help take some of the burden. You have brothers in this group, you have family, community, church, whatever it may be, but if you are here at an AO at 0530 or reading this BB you absolutely have someone to share the weight with. Second, if you can, seek to be that person that takes the weight off of someone. Be it here, at hoe or in the community. It is often times the small gestures that help the most, just be there for one another.
