YHC grew up a Carolina fan, has two degrees from Carolina, and is raising his children to be Tar Heels.  As is customary, his love of Carolina carries with it a hatred of Duke basketball that burns like the fire of 10,000 suns.  So he decided to lead a workout of Carolina basketball related exercises at the front door of Cameron Indoor Stadium.

17 showed up strong and ready to work.

Warm-Up

  • 5 burpees
  • Windmill X 15
  • 5 burpees because Dial-Up was late.
  • Mountain climbers X 15
  • 5 burpees because Larry Legend was late.
  • WMH X 10
  • 5 burpees because Sweatervest did not follow instructions
  • SSH X 15

 

Ridge Work

  • Mosey to the ridge.
  • Backwards run up, 25 ‘Muricans — spelled this way because I Googled “merkin”. (Click and thank me later.)
  • Run back down, 25 ‘Muricans
  • Backwards run up, 25 ‘Muricans
  • Backwards run to Cameron

 

Another Hartley

YHC introduced The Hartley last week and decided to do it again. YHC’s high school basketball Coach Hartley ran a countdown workout for the North Gaston Wildcats a few times per week 1995-1998.  It was terrible then and it is terrible now — 10 reps of 3 exercises, run down and back, then 9 reps of 3 exercises, run down and back, then 8 reps….all the way down to 1.

For this round, the PAX did Carolina-themed exercises:

  • Joel Berry squats — floor tap squat to a jump shot.
  • Thank-the-Passer ‘Muricans — ‘Muricans with an arm up and finger point at the top, alternating hands.
  • Hansbrough mule kicks — like the burpee kick back, but kick high for extra shoulder burn.

All PAX finished, some a little quicker than others.  While waiting on the 6, YHC lead PAX through a few rounds of Chataranga Dandasana — a slow yoga flow that YHC has come to enjoy, down dog to plank to low plank to up dog back to down dog.

We had more time leftover than expected, so we tacked on a couple bonus exercises:

  • Dips X 15, 15, 20
  • Step ups, 20 each side
