Backblast from the Past

This song rules. YHC posted it to the Tobacco Road channel yesterday by way of pre-blast and just said “Get ready for a blast from the past.” That rascal Floyd went and figured out what was up, noting the following: “@Kia you have to come. 2 years ago (ish) you Q’d old Cosmo’s FNG workout. I took a look back at the BB for that day. Fun stuff.”

Indeed, the plan was to re-create Kia’s beatdown from my first-ever post, which was two years ago Sunday at Tobacco Road.

Floyd’s spoiling notwithstanding, that’s what we did, with a couple of modifications.

Stopped by the rock pile in one divergence from Kia’s original to get in a couple of quick sets of rows and curls. Trying to incorporate at least a little work for the pulling muscles (heh heh) in each Q these days.

Then to the big turf field – finally open after closing in March – for the re-creation.

From Kia’s backblast:

There was a station at each corner of the field with four cones.    We broke off into four groups and headed off to our corner.   Each corner had three rounds of exercises listed with the number of reps.   Do the exercise at the first cone- sprint to the next and work your way through all four cones.   Then it was a recovery run to the next corner where a new exercise and number of reps was waiting for us.

Everyone seemed to really be focusing on enjoying each station as much as possible so there was not a lot lapping the groups in front.

The stations included:  Round 1:   10 ‘merkins on corner 1 and 3, 10 each LBCs on corner 2 and 4.   Round 2: 10 each side shuffle hops and 10 airsquats.   Saving the best for last:   Round 3: 5 burbees at corners 1 and 3 with 10 WWIIs at corners 2 and 4.

Modified the burbees to burpees 🙂 , and mode of travel between corners was backwards run, as we were looking back through time. Get it?

Good time was had by all, except Pong, one of Wreck It’s 2.0’s, who fell while racing YHC backwards and appears to have sprained his wrist. Felt particularly bad about this as Pong hadn’t posted in a while. Hope for a speedy recovery and to have him back soon. He has my permission to only run forwards from now on.

Bellhop reminded about Romper Room on Saturday at 0815, 2.0 and M-friendly workout. Prayers for Jellystone as he continues to deal with stress-related sleeplessness. Prayers for a family friend of Brotox who has COVID, and indeed all who have been afflicted. YHC took us out.

Grateful for a large and chatty group today. T-claps to Brotox and Chum for making the trek from Briar Chapel. Particularly glad to have Floyd, through luck of the draw, in my foursome, just as he was two years ago. No better workout partner than The King of Mumblechatter himself. As YHC has mentioned, two years ago that mumblechatter helped distract from the pain, and probably was a big reason YHC kept coming back. Super grateful for F3, and so grateful to Floyd as well, despite the spoiler thing. SYITG!
