(Annoyed Grunt)

July 12, 2019

WHEN: 07/12/2019
QIC: Cosmo
PAX: Malware, Scapula, Castaway, Loonie, Botched, Kia [RESPECT], Lap Lane, Exhibit A, Nails [RESPECT], My Little Pony, 2Ply, The Exchange [RESPECT], Yurt, Pikachu, One Direction

For the uninitiated, this explains the headline.

Capped off the 40th bday/one-year F3iversary/Simpsons Q week with a strong showing from the SoDu brotherhood.

Brought Scapula and Castaway along from the hood (Scap’s first Falcon post in 2019, Castaway’s first ever) to join Botched, Loonie and Pikachu for EC manmakers. Great way to get warm and get stronger, though YHC was definitely feeling it after Qing all week.

16 total gathered in the gloom for a Homer Simpson-inspired beatdown. First, a rough approximation of my first post one year ago:

WARMUP

Per Exhibit A’s suggestion, Sideshow Bob Shuffle Hops X 20IC
Groundskeeper Willie Mays Hayes (super slow – Scottish accent cadence)X 10 IC
Mountain Climber X 20 IC – commemorating Homer’s ascent of The Murderhorn (“King of the Hill”, Season 9, episode 23) This foreshadowed later activities.
D’oh Merkins – Like Booyah Merkins, except you said D’oh – went until felt everyone was in the spirit. Once again, PAX did not disappoint in humoring my clear mid-life crisis regression.

Moseyed to the far hill for

THE THANG

H is for Homer, and also for Heartbreak 1,2,3 – Heartbreak 1, 2, 3’s are modified Dora 1, 2, 3’s with a heartbreaking hill in place of the 100 meter sprint – 100 merkins, 200 American Hammers IC, 300 jumpsquats. We backwards ran up the hill, regular run down. This took a while and was difficult. Word to the wise: Partner with Lap Lane if you can, especially on a day when you’re maybe not feeling it. That dude made things relatively easy on YHC, which was appreciated.

Outlaw – Denoting the many, many times Homer has broken the law. On your six, six-inch hold, keep your feet together and then make a big “O” with them. 10 reps to the right and 10 reps to the left, then five to the right, five to the left.

Mike Tyson (Drederick Tatum, from “The Homer They Fall” season 8, episode 3, et al.) – Place feet against a curb or rail while in a plank position. Contract the legs for a horizontal squat. (1) Extend legs (2) Perform a Merkin (3) Return to starting position (4) or one rep. X 15IC

Running low on time at this point. Quick mosey to bottom of first hill.

E is for Everest aka The Murderhorn – Lunge right leg, squat, lunge left leg, squat. Made it about two-thirds of the way to the brick circle (YHC could have sworn there used to be a flagpole there, but alas) then bear crawled the rest.

R is for Ring of Fire – Five D’oh Merkins each around the circle. It was enjoyable.

Mosey to Parking lot for

MARY
Homer to Marge to Mr. Burns – Homer is six inch hold, Marge is legs straight up, Mr. Burns is legs straight to the left, head turned to the right, then back to Marge, then Mr. Burns on the other side, back to Marge, back to Homer. (Why Mr. Burns? because it burns and he worked at the Springfield nuclear plant). We did this for a couple of minutes
5 burpees OYO to close out, ostensibly to honor Homer’s drinking buddy Barney Gumble:

COT

The Bull, Oct. 26

Loonie encouraged anyone who hasn’t Q’d to jump in and try it, and reach out to others for guidance up to an including co-Qing. YHC got a lot of support from Knope, OPEC, Cardiac and others for his first Q. Happy to pay that forward to anyone. Q’ing is a great way to show leadership and hone leadership skills, not to mention lots of fun. (See above.)

Prayers for Riggs’ mother-in-law, who is battling a serious health concern.

MOLESKIN

HUGE thanks to Botched for this excellent birthday present! The last two he could secure up in Blowing Rock. They will be enjoyed this weekend at the lake! Thank you sir!

Turning 40 and hitting my one-year anniversary definitely has given pause for reflection. Can honestly say this has been the best year of my adult life – in the best shape physically, mentally and spiritually. It’s thanks to you guys. The “Leave No Man Behind, But Leave No Man Where You Found Him” ethos is very strong in Churham, and it’s made all the difference for me. Especially appreciate Scapula, Bellhop and Castaway – The Boyz from the Hood – for their fellowship and their strong example that continues to push me to do more. Grateful to Floyd, WeedNFeed, Awesome Baby, Kia, Boucher, 16 Seed and all the SoDu regulars for making every workout a joy. Grateful to rucking buddies Uzi, Pikachu, Red October, Rambler, Dean Wormer, Sir Mixalot, Malware, Green Acres, Marta, Peppermint Pattie and others for the camaraderie and toughness that crazy ruck thing instills. Grateful to the Fat A$$ Challenge compadres like The Exchange, Brotox, Eddie the Eagle and others for pushing each other to stay disciplined. Could go on, but the main point is this thing is special. Keep coming out, keep EHing new guys, keep pushing yourself to do more. That’s my plan anyway. SYITG! Aye!
