A Little Sip of Saturday Sunshine

May 20, 2017

WHEN: 05/20/2017
QIC: Sweats
PAX: Sweats, Big Cat, Kitten, Marta, Ocho, Hux

6 PAX were met by glorious undulating rays of sunshine in Chapel Hill this morning. What a time to be alive and working hard with F3! If you can”t get moving and grooving with these beautiful mornings, then you sir have a big dump in your pants. Anyway, with little sip of that sunshine and a standard warm up, PAX were ready to dig into the main event. Training on TBR”s field is truly a delight. YHC is a former Division 1 athlete (humblebrag alert), and he never trained on anything that nice. It wasn”t all dandelions and chipwiches this morning, though. The humidity was kicking and the sweat was pouring. But that is just fine, because unbruised prosperity is easy to defeat in the ring. Make us the champion who has been knocked down a few times by a little adversity. We train to endure, and every time we encounter something tough, let that sweet melodious voice go off inside our heads, “Yes, I know this enemy. This is what I”ve trained for.”
Lest we become those pour souls who prepare arduously for something that never happens, let”s get to the main event!
2 plastic bags, each with 7 index cards inside of them, each card with an exercise written on it. 1 PAX runs across the field to retrieve the card, then runs back and leads his group in the exercise he chose. Rotate through until all cards finished. The exercises:

  • 25 standard merkins
  • 20 diamond merkins
  • 20 burpees
  • Full-field sprint (round trip)
  • 20 cadence count flutter kicks
  • 30 tuck jumps
  • 30 jump squats

Great work by Kitten on the full-field sprint. PAX were nice a loose now, but a terrible turn of events led to getting lost in the Bearmuda Triangle!
3 cones, about 50 yards apart, set in a triangle. Bear crawl all the way around, stopping at each cone for 1) 20 burpees 2) 30 merkins and 3) 40 squats.
Then PAX got even further lost in the triangle, and had to crawl bear back through it, but this time with half the reps for each exercise as the first go ”round. No problem for Big Cat, because he is Mr. Crawl-Bear Extraordinaire.
Bows and toes plank for all PAX. One guy sprints to mid-field, 10 merkins, then sprints to end of field, 10 jump lunges. When the first guy gets to mid-field the second guy takes off. All guys wait on the other end of the field in bows and toes. Repeato, though this time with 10 dry docks and 20 WWIIs. I heard a few compliments thrown out on Marta”s dry-dock form. It”s impeccable. It”s true, Marta paints the Sistine Chapel of Dry-Docks.
Lunge walk, stopping at each line for an increasing number of dry docks: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64. Great to have the Big Cat and Ocho pushing the pace here!
Ark Loader, starting with a bunny hop to mid-field, then frog jump, coming back with gorilla hop and the grasshopper. These animal movements are such a great way to get the heart rate moving. Props to all PAX for powering through.
Mary: 30 LBCs, 30 H2H, 20 Russian Hammers, and about 3 minutes of Superman holds.
CoT:
After the workout, PAX appeared as if they had each cannonballed into the pool a few times. A woman approached and hugged Hux, prompting YHC to note that, “she must actually be related to you, because a wife would not do that!” (It was his sister.) Props to Marta for planting the most ostentatiously awesome shovel flag, Saturday-in-Saturday-out. Enjoyed the Q at TBR and hope to do it again, soon!
