Birthday Breakfast

Happy Birthday, Edie! My youngest daughter celebrated her 5th birthday so it only seemed natural to share the birth story with the pax this morning. When my M questioned the wisdom of this idea I said, “it will be great!” So here is how we tried to re-live a childbirth story as only F3 men can truly do. The generosity of the Northern Province was on full display from the very beginning of the work-out with two pax members giving, new and unused masks with those in need and who requested any extras, including YHC.

Warm-up

  • WMH to the left/right

The Thang

With a Weinke index card in hand, YHC stated we would be experiencing the childbirth story in all its glory with F3 twists and to follow me to dark places. The pax moseyed to the Middle School parking lot.

1:38am Awaken

YHC shared how I was awaken 5 yrs ago at 0138 to my M saying she was experiencing contractions. So we did some the workout- A.L.A.R.M (arms, legs, abs, “R”, “M”)

  • Shoulder Presses (24 IC in honor of March 24th)
  • Lunges (24 IC)
  • LBCs (24 IC)
  • Run around the middle school (slightly sketchy and of so right)
  • Merkins (24)

2:50am Doula Arrives!

The pax were notified we needed to meet the doula so we moseyed up the hill back toward the high school tennis courts.

  • When we got to the top of the hill we circled up to welcome the doula with some “cheerleaders” (24 IC)
  • Moseyed to the tennis courts
  • Circled up for a modified “Fire Drill” where instead of yelling “fire” the pax took turns yelling “contraction” before rolling on the ground and performing merkins

7am Drive to the Hospital!

Enough of these “contractions” at the house it was time to go to the hospital! The pax then started moving from one side of the tennis courts to the far side:

  • Bear crawl to the end of the 3rd court
  • Crab walk to the remainder of the courts

After agreeing that sucked the pax circled up to simulate some pushing exercises:

  • Monkey Humpers (24 IC)
  • T-Bones (24)

It was time to meet our new baby!

8:09am Baby is born!

The pax grabbed a rock of their choice by the track field and grabbed a space on the nearby building for some Rock a Bye Babies! We completed a total of 24 IC count and moseyed back to the flag for a plank hold until it was 0615 and we all felt the pride of new fathers.

Naked Moleskin

T-claps to the men who show up when it’s the hard thing to do. Stress at home and work can eat away at the best of us and yet there are always men in the gloom ready to encourage you on. When you need a lift there are men for you and other times you can be that strong man for others. Celebrate the wins and of course, cherish those birthdays especially with those 2.os! They might even inspire you to lead a workout in their honor:)
