Focus on Forms Week 2018

Who:                  Churham F3 PAX

When:                December 3-8, 2018

Where:               All AOs

Why/What/How:

During the first week in December, there will be a theme of “Focus on Form”.  At each AO proper form associated with the exercises that we commonly do will be emphasized.  The Q will focus on things they see commonly break down with the intent to remind veterans where they may be getting away from proper form, and inform the new guys who may not know what proper form is (e.g. do I bend at the waist on a squat?, how much of a merkin do I do during a burpee?, am are my hands in the right spot for this merkin?, you get the picture).

While the F3 fellas are always good for friendly, sometimes breathy mumblechatter, Forms week will have a greater focus on slowing down, and taking questions or explaining the proper form of what we do.  As we all heard we host an FNG, we aren’t experts, so be understanding if a Q doesn’t know the answer.  If there is another PAX that does, he should contribute to the collective pool of knowledge.  In my time with F3, this group has always been supportive.  We trust that everyone will continue that support, no busting chops, or judging the other fellas based on the questions.

Another item open for discussion is what modifications are appropriate if a PAX can’t hang with the beatdown.  We’ve all seen the lunge walk in lieu of the bear crawl, we’ve all done the knee Merkins (I’d call them girl Merkins [Gerkins?], but hey like I said, no judging.  I did them last week).  What’s the modification for a pull up, and you don’t have a spotter?  All of these are valid, and all are things that someone in your workout needs to know.

Qs, if you have a good question, discussion about form, or explanation at your AO, put it in your backblast, so we can refer to it.  I’ll do my best to compile the information and add it to the Focus on Forms Week Summary

The bottom line is, during the week of the 3rd, the Qs at each site are going to slow it down, do something extra to talk about proper form, and encourage form questions; think quality over quantity.  The PAX should ask questions, and play back up for the Qs if they don’t know the answer.  Don’t give anyone a hard time, help out if the Q needs it, and remember iron sharpens iron.
