YHC heard about the “board of pain” listening to the recent F3 podcast 43 Feet – episode 4.
Legend has it this started in Raleigh c. 2014 & was “the toughest workout in the region at the time”. My deep search of the interweb did not find a backblast for that era but I found the recent work described by Dark Helmet at The Fort.
WARM-UP: (strategically planned to avoid mumblechatter that we didn’t even warm-up before launching into 100 burpees). Disclaimer given with FNG in the house.
SSH x 25 IC
Good mornings x 10 IC
WMH x 10 IC
Mosey to River Park.
THE THANG:
Reminded Pax of DRP – daily Commitment to Accelerate his Fitness, Fellowship & Faith. This workout challenges the mind as well as the body. As is commonly said in F3 – “leave no man behind, but leave no man where you find him.” As such, we embarked on the beat-down.
Playlist (chosen for subliminal messages & tempo) –
Start Me Up – The Rolling Stones – “you make a grown man cry”…”tough me up”…”never stop”
Jump Around – House of Pain – “Jump! Jump! Jump!”
The Distance – Cake – “churning & burning”…”muscle for rank”…”driving & striving as fast as he can”
Dont Stop ‘Til You Get Enough – Michael Jackson
Body Movin’ – Beastie Boys
Barely Breathing – Duncan Sheik
Jump – Van Halen – “I get up and nothin’ gets me down”…”might as well jump”
Get Up Offa That Thing – James Brown
Time expired after about 29 minutes (what was left after the warm-up & mosey). No time for MARY but felt that was built in.
Pax made their mark on the board. Buffay takes home the board & bragging rights. The board may show up anytime now. Will you beat your PR next time the board makes an appearance?
COT:
Welcome FNG Milton.
Hillsborough 2nd F at new Wooden Nickel location next Wednesday, 7/18/18 at 8 PM.
Prayers for Pax with family in town, those traveling, school starting back for some 2.0s, Ms expecting 2.0s.
NMS:
You know you did 100 burpees in a field when you’re digging grass out of your belly button all morning…okay okay…I’ll stop there. That may be taking the “naked” part of this moleskin too far.
Fascinating paradox that I want to try this again to see if I can beat my mark. I would also like to reiterate that we spent 29 minutes on THE THANG. Certainly dedicating the full 45 to this thing would allow us to get further down the board.
This challenge reminds me of the importance of what some have called “intentional crucibles”. Conquering the first 100 burpees builds some confidence to tackle the days remaining challenges.
Lastly, I think it’s okay for the Pax who posted today to add that they are on the F3 Hillsborough Board of Pain to their resume.
