Hit the Beach (D-Day Rememberance)

June 6, 2017

WHEN: 06/06/2017
QIC: Red October
PAX: Python, Night Shift, Jetson, Tuco, Head Lock, Skipper, Dungeon Daster, Rev Run, Kitten, Cheese Splint, Kim Jong Still, Brick, Walnuts, Cooter, Pink, Peach, Big Cat, Appomattox, Assisi, Shanks, Foodlion, Red October (YHC)

After over 18 months of posting at F3, YHC finally got the gumption to grab the solo Q. (There was one Co-Q event back in the winter, but in that instance YHC was out Q”ed by the 9 Year Old Co-Q. Darn it, never get into a staring contest with a scarecrow, and never Co-Q with a 9 year Old.) What was the driver? Why did YHC all of a sudden decide to take the leap? YHC realized after reading some of the EPIC BB”s from Sweats, and also after listening to the F3 Podcast “All about the Q” that it was time to step up. You miss 100% of the shots you don”t take, and it was time to give it a whirl, besides what is the worst that could happen? (Most of the 22 PAX who posted at VORTEX this morning replied, “Why didn”t you just stay in your lane? We liked you better not Q”ing, if we liked you at all.) Thank you all for allowing me the opportunity to lead a workout.

MAIN EVENT: PRELUDE
Today”s Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy France was the overall theme for this morning”s workout. Like 73 Years ago, June 5th brought with it heavy rains and storms that many thought would prevent he D-Day landings from occurring. (Even Field Marshall Erwin Rommell bugged out to Berlin to spend time with his wife because it was her Birthday, he was so sure the Allies weren”t coming on June 6th, 1944.) There was a break in the weather though, long enough for the invasion to begin, and the beach heads to be established.
22 PAX begin the PRELUDE to the ME by grabbing their selected coupon and traveling from the Main Field, down the hill to the baseball diamond. The PAX were split into Four Groups. 1s start at First Base do AMRAP WWIIs until relieved. 2s at Second Base do AMRAP LBC”s until relieved. 3s at Third Base do AMRAP Flutter Kicks until relieved. 4s at Home Plate will perform 15 Burpees then run to First, relieving the Pax there. Continued until all Pax had done the Burpees.

The PAX were ready to proceed to the Landing Craft for assault on the beaches. The PAX picked up their coupon and returned to the end line of the main field.

MAIN EVENT: THANG
5 Wind and Rain Swept beaches awaited the PAX. GOLD, JUNO, SWORD, UTAH, OMAHA. The PAX carried their coupon to mid field, dropped their coupon, sprinted to a beach of choice at the other end of the Field. Each Beach contained directions for an exercise and a method of travel back to Mid-Field. Upon return to Mid-Field the PAX picked up a coupon and ran back to the launch site. Repeato for 20 Minutes.

Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force:

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months.

The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.

In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped, and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944. Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned. The free men of the world are marching together to victory.

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory.

Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.
