400 reps?…Just another day at the Vortex

The Vortex has a certain reputation to be upheld, and every time I have the opportunity to Q here, I remind myself that the PAX who usually come to the Vortex do not show up hoping for an easy workout. I did my best to challenge the 27 strong who came to work hard.

The Thang

PAX lined up on the end line. We traveled to 4 different lines spanning TWO fields (18, half, 18, end line) and completed 20 reps of the following exercises at each line, including the starting line, for a total of 100 reps of each exercise. Our method of travel changed for each round, and we would always recovery jog back to the starting line.

Round 1

  • Sprint to each line
  • 20 merkins x 5

Round 2

  • Bear crawl to each line
  • 20 squats x 5

Round 3

  • Crab walk to each line (this felt like a LONG crab walk and made YHC question the decision to do this)
  • 20 dry docks x 5

Round 4

  • Backwards run to each line
  • 20 jump lunges x 5

400 reps DONE! The squats and lunges made me very sore in the days ahead (late writing this)! Still time for more…
Ruckers were kind enough to loan 8 weighted rucks for this. Eight PAX, each with a 30-45 lb ruck, would print the length of two fields and back, while the remaining PAX completed the exercises below. We cycled through until all PAX had completed the Ruck sprint, while other PAX were doing the following:

  • Wide grip merkins
  • World War IIs
  • Diamond grip merkins

Upon completion, all PAX did 20 burpees (had to throw this in to be sure I was in keeping with Vortex reputation).
