Eight hardy souls gathered at Eddie Smith Fieldhouse in the rainy gloom Monday. After a quick warmup (SSH x 20, Squats x 10, Windmills x 10, CDD x 10), we jogged to Cobb Parking Deck, where YHC rolled Lucky Sevens for the balance of the beat-down.
The group circled up for seven reps of seven exercises: Burpees, Squats, Jump Lunges, Carolina Dry Docks, Merkins, Diamond Merkins and Plank Jacks. Then we ran up six more levels, stopping and circling up to repeat the same routine of 7/7.
For variety we substituted Double-Merkin Burpees and Burpees w/Four SSH; Wide-Grip Merkins, 1.5 Merkins and Three-Stop Merkins; and on the last exercise did 30-second Bows-to-Toes Plank Holds, Mountain Climbers and Parker-Peters in addition to Plank Jacks.
Then we ran back to the east end of Fetzer Field outside Eddie Smith for our final COT at this location.
Commencing in mid-May, the entire Fetzer Field/Navy Field/Henry Stadium complex will become a construction site as a $25 million facility overhaul begins. Word from UNC Athletic Officials is that Eddie Smith Fieldhouse will remain in operation and likely the access road and parking lot, but our venues of the Fetzer Track and Navy Fields will no longer be available as the project begins.
Thus the workout we have fondly known as Fetzer since its maiden voyage on Dec. 2, 2013, with Rodeo (now an attorney in Charlotte), Adophus, an FNG named Coco and a fourth unidentified PAX, now must relocate.
Beginning Monday May 1, the workout will be named “Kenan” and we”ll meet at the North Gate of Kenan Stadium. Qs will have the option of easy access to Polk Place for campus tours; to the Bell Tower for High Noon Smoke-Outs; to the Bell Tower and Rams Head Parking Decks; and it”s just a short run back to Hooker Fields. So spread the word: 0545 next Monday, North Gate at Kenan Stadium.
