Twenty four pax came out on a beautiful 24 degree morning for a St. Patrick”s Day workout led by two Irish Americans. One traces his roots to Kerry and Galway and spent two years living in Kerry as a kid. The second has a mother born in Kilkenny and a father whose family is from Armagh. Here”s what happened:
COP – SSH, WMH, Imperial Walkers, Merkins
To the tune of Metallica”s version of Whiskey in the Jar (which is nowhere near as good as the Dubliners version included in this post), burpees, lunges, Irish Hammers, and Irish Merkins. Every time you hear the word “Whiskey” move on to the next exercise.
Time to hit the hills around Market Street. Jog to the corner of Kildaire (nice Irish name) and Copperline (boo – sounds English). Divide into 2 groups. Group 1 sprints up the hill and jogs back while group 2 does Irish Merkins. Switch. Set 2 – ab exercise of your choice. Set 3 – back step lunges.
Jog to the corner of Aberdeen (Scotland is cool) for 3 more sets, this time with Irish Merkins, reverse planks, and jump lunges.
Jog to the corner of Brookgreen where we only had time for 1 set with a 6-inch leg hold.
Jog to the stage for Moore”s dreaded Irish Squats (Moore – nice touch with the Celtics sweatshirt). Ten sets of 20 squats every 30 seconds. That”s five minutes, 200 squats.
Jog then sprint back to Southern Community Park for 3 minutes of Mary where we did flutter kicks and one last set of O”Vandelay-led Irish Hammers.
Announcements: 5k Run for Education is tomorrow; the Thicket has put together an awesome set of guest Qs for the month of April; WhatsApp groups are being deleted this weekend so if you haven”t downloaded the most excellent Slack app yet, please do; look for an announcement this afternoon about a get-together at a local pub to watch some basketball.
