Toting the Rock down Tobacco Road

July 7, 2016

WHEN: 07/07/2016
QIC: Sweats
PAX: Sweats, Amphibious, Beeker, Bushwood, Shovel, DLT, Cardiac, Doogie, Tuco

With the arrival of his new 2.0, YHC took a little time off from Q”ing and hoped for a triumphant return at Tobacco Road. Mase didn”t show up whistling “Welcome Back,” but what the Q lacked in fanfare was made up for in hard work. They don”t call me Sweats for nothing. Actually, they call me Sweats because I wear sweatshirts and sweatpants. I digress…

The Thang:
Pigskin run
We started with an Indian Run (not sure that”s the preferred nomenclature – my apologies) down Tobacco Road tossing a football back through the line, with the last guy with the rock sprinting to the front, repeato. Any fumbles resulted in a penalty-to-be-named at the end of the workout. Cardiac insisted on botching the pitch to YHC, resulting in two fumbles. Anyway, this nice little jog got the juices flowing.
Inversions
We took turns maxing out on inversions on the pull-up bar. For each inversion, the rest of the PAX had to match with a burpee. Next guy”s inversions were matched with Merkins, and the next guy”s matched with squats. Repeato until through all PAX. A few PAX hit upwards of 15 inversions, which is impressive.
Lunge Walk Indian Run
Pigskin run back to the parking lot, where we launched into a lunge walk Indian Run while each guy in line did squats for each lunge done by guy heading to the front of the line. The idea was to get up the damn hill, and as you can imagine our pace left much to be desired. YHC cut this short because of too much mumblechatter. Just as there is no crying in baseball, there is no mumblechatter in lunge walk Indian Runs. Everyone knows that.
Box Jumps and BTTW
Time to take this thing up a notch. 20 box jumps, 10 step ups each leg, then a 2-minute BTTW. (SPOILER ALERT: I think we will shoot for a 3-minute BTTW in YHC”s Qs next week. Stay tuned, Vortex and Falcon faithful.) The only way to do BTTW for long durations is to remember this quote from Joseph Campbell, “Find a place where there is joy inside, and the joy will burn out the pain.” You”re welcome.
No rest between any of these exercises. Any guys dropping off the wall in BTTW had to do squats. Repeato, only the second time we shot for 1 minute BTTW instead. Now we are cooking with gas.
Broken Wheelbarrows and Bear Crawls
Mosey the field for broken wheelbarrows to the 50, switch partners, then back. Then bear crawl to the 50, sprint back.
Penalty for the football hitting the ground twice: 2 kickoff returns (200 yard sprint) for each PAX, which we will call Mary.
Moleskin: Thinking of other ways to incorporate the football. Oklahoma Drills next time, anyone?
