“EC” THANG – Man-maker Series
Fifteen PAX started the day with an upper body-focused EC in the bowels of the Rams Head Parking Deck. There were weights galore….kettle bells, dumbbells, ruck plates….25 lbs, 35 lbs, or 45 lbs. Each man made a choice of weight size and shape. Then the PAX moseyed off towards the parking deck. On the way there, each man dropped his weight at the brick bridge, bear crawled to the other side, and then ran back across to pick the weight up again. To much excitement by Blindside, the PAX completed 10 shoulder presses in cadence, with a 10-second hold at the top on the last rep before recovery. The group then finished the stroll halfway down the brick steps at Rams Head, through the entrance doors, and into Level 3 of the Rams Head Deck. Once inside, the PAX completed the following sequence (AMRAP) for ~20 minutes:
Man-maker Merkin Series (Page 3 of the Falcon Textbook)
- 10 pull ups from deck beams
- 10 burpees
- Carry two weights of choice to far end of Level 3 and back
- Repeat0
Before moseying back to the North Entrance of Kenan, the PAX completed 20 SSH in cadence to rush the blood outward to all sore parts of the upper extremities.
The PAX dropped the weights at the North Entrance and continued to mosey down Stadium Drive, taking a right to stop at the stadium entrance directly behind the Bell Tower. There, the PAX was broken into groups of two to alternate between the following exercises:
- Wall Hand Stand
- 20-yd Bear Crawl, Backwards Run back to partner on wall
- Rotate through cycle continuously for ~six minutes
With an early sense of accomplishment, the group then moseyed back to the North Entrance of Kenan to join the rest of the PAX arriving for 9/11 Stair Climb.
“ME” THANG – The Stair Climb
What a sight to behold! Over 50 PAX gathered with all branches of UNC’s ROTC program, police, firemen, and several UNC students to climb the stairs of Kenan Stadium in honor of the victims and first responders who died and gave their lives for others on this day sixteen years ago. There was a dichotomy of respectful focus and excited energy in the air. F3 represented a very large percentage of those in attendance. The growth of F3 in recent months has been so substantial that many in attendance had not seen each other in quite some time. Each brother was excited to discuss the growth of the AO(s) closest to them and any current/future plans in the works. After an opening ceremony conducted by ROTC, Chancellor Folt, and the Achordants, the group of 300+ runners completed a 2,076-stair run of Kenan Stadium to honor and remember the tragic events of 9/1/2001. Some rucked the stair climb or strapped on a weighted vest for an extra challenge. Know that the PAX who showed up to represent F3 made us all proud.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Prayers for DOI’s M as she undergoes surgery
- Congratulations to all F3 Beasts that completed the BRR this past weekend. Despite the toll on the body during that event, many BRR PAX were in attendance this morning at the 9/11 Stair Climb to share stories. Are you men or machines?!?!?!?!?!
- It has been two years to the day since my first F3 workout, and I thank you all for your friendship and for the significant difference you have made in my life. It’s an amazing feeling to be a part of something really special, to be a part of something much bigger than yourself, something that you see change lives everyday. Keep pushing yourself and the PAX to the left and right of you to be better. Remember that energy is contagious, and actions always speak louder than words.
