1,200 is the new 1,000

WHEN: 05/01/2019
QIC: Griswold
PAX: Petri, Hal, Nescafe, Zook, Nito (Respect!), Paperjam, Marky Mark, Duplo, Placebo, GTL, Bright Idea, Germ, Kosher, Stubbs, Brotox, ICE (Happy Birthday!)

It has been a while since I had any consistency in my fitness, the longest 2 months in recent memory. A foot injury and a bad back had me shelved and feeling like total shit, both mentally and physically. Getting back to a consistent plan and a respectable level of fitness are high on the list for YHC, and the best way to do it is to Q it. 17 PAX came out to get after it, and at least 2 did Murph EC at our fancy new pull-up bars.

Warmup:

SSH x 30 IC

Imperial Walker x 10

Mountain Climber x 10

The Thang:

Late last week Brotox put out the call for a Q at TBH. Since YHC has been out of action for a while, it seemed like a good idea to step up. Plus side, it got me up and out. Downside, it got me up and out at 0500.  Other downside, I didn’t really prepare a Q by late last night. So I recycled one.

Not sure I would be able to do much of anything, as I have spent the better part of 2 months “cultivating mass” and increasing my resting heart rate like it was my job. Last August I had a Q I thought would be worth repeating (https://f3churham.move-marketing.net/1-year-anniversary-1100-reps/). Some modifications were made to make this something I thought that I could actually accomplish.

The workout was fairly simple:

PAX run in a predetermined loop around the neighborhood, making periodic, planned, stops to do the below exercises. Plan called for 10 stops, but time allowed for 12, lucky for all of us!!

The exercises:

20 Merkins

20 Squats

20 SC Reverse Lunges

20 SC Mountain Climbers

20 SC LBCs

The original workout in August of 2018 had 10 burpees at the end of each stop, but YHC was pretty sure that was a bad idea based on current fitness level and unwillingness to spill merlot. That was scrapped, but it did allow for 2 extra stops. Great news!! Last years 1,100 became the 1,200!

To cap off the workout we all celebrated ICE’s birthday with 43 Merkins (to be honest most everyone celebrated with 43 Merkins, YHC celebrated with less Merkins, but no less enthusiasm) Happy birthday ICE!

Announcements:

-F3 Dad’s camp is coming up in August. 2.0s (boys and girls welcome) as young as 4 can attend. (Side note, we all learned Brotox is a brave man, taking 2 4 year olds to the camp this summer).

-The Murph is coming up, May 21.

BoM:

One of the most important parts of F3 is the community we build and the way we look out for one another. While waiting to get back to a place where I could workout again I got pretty down. My last time really getting after anything was the F3 Churham custom GoRuck HTL. It did not end the way I wanted. Injuries and poor decisions lead to me not completing the Tough, walking away with a Heavy and a Light patch, but not the Tough and not my bolts. I got to sit home for 2 months without doing anything, and my last time working out hurt and ended in failure. That but me in a bad humor for most of the time, and I got pretty down. That’s where F3 comes in though. I was having a particularly shitty day all around (in no small part because I wasn’t allowing myself an alternative), but when I decided to check in on slack I had messages from at least 3 guys checking in to see how I was doing. It didn’t get me out there any sooner, but the boost was perceptible and instant.

It doesn’t take much to reach out and send a message or grab lunch with one of our brothers that’s on the DL (or is it IL now that MLB is politically correct?). The impact it makes can be much more. Let’s all keep that in mind, and remember that most of us are here for more than just a workout. We are here for a community. Try to think about the faces you haven’t seen in a while and reach out. See how they are. It goes a long way.
