August 6, 2018

WHEN: 08/06/2018

PAX: Paperboy, Zook, Grunge, GTL, RG3, Bright Idea, Cabaret, John Boy, Stinky Pete, Flenderson, FNG Iron Lung, Marky Mark, Rambler, Mothman, Germ, Duplo, Catskill, Stubs, Hickory, Nightshift, Griswold

Next week will mark YHCs 1 year in F3. I didn’t think this was something that would be for me, it took me at least 7 or 8 months of the EH from Skynard to get me to finally come out. Chef Tel had the Q for my first workout, and when he came out of the gloom, extend his fist (which I was pretty sure was just a rock with a glove on it), and said “welcome brother”! I knew I was in trouble. Pride and Yanni’s encouragement got me through that first workout. It took about an hour of laying on the floor to get over that beating. I was hooked! Marky Mark gifted me my first Q on New Years Day, by suggesting I Q and then letting me know he was going to give me that day. I have been pushed by everyone on this group in the past year to get better, not just in my fitness but as a member of my community and family. I figured the best way to pay that forward would be trying to come up with a solid beat down, which in F3 currency is as good as gold!

The Thang:

Early this morning 5 set out on an EC Ruck, and shortly after 4(?) did EC pull-ups. All while YHC fartsacked EC! Fortunately the ME was likely to make up for YHCs extra snooze. A couple of weeks ago YHC read Shooters BB from his workout called the 500, and it sounded awesome. After a couple of tweaks to the exercises and YHC making some poor decisions regarding rep count, the 1,100 was born (spoiler alert the 500 was probably a much better idea).

After the warm-up YHC laid out the plan. We would all mosey as a group for short tour of BC (turned out to be about 1.15mi round trip, so a pretty crappy tour) stopping 10 times along the way for some work.

At each stop the PAX did the following:

20 Squats SC

20 Merkins SC

20 Reverse Lunges SC

20 MC IC (Eventually became SC due to time restraints)

20 LBC SC

10 Burpees (after 5 rounds these became recovery burpees until all PAX were done LBCs)

Time was tight, but with some minor modifications we were able to complete all 10 rounds by 6:30 on the dot.

Mary:

Mary had to skipped, but YHC figured the 200 LBCs and 200 mountain climbers had to count for something.

Announcements:

– The Rabbit is celebrating its 1 year anniversary tomorrow, they will be launching from the Veranda and covering trails. A headlamp is recommended, but the trails will not be overly technical. Breakaway is opening 30 minutes early for coffeteria after the workout. Congrats to Grunge and all the Rabbit faithful for a strong year!

-Nightshift pointed out to us all that we should be looking to Q just a little bit more. In BC we are lucky that our Q sheets overflow with signups. We have a 2-3 month wait on most sheets. Other parts of our region are not so lucky. Stop Drop and Roll will be Qing 5 times this week to cover some AOs. YHC did 5 days in a week by choice, SDR is doing it because we have a shortage. Time is tough, but if we can follow Nightshift and Grunges examples of getting out and taking the reigns on a Q it will help the region grow. Lets lead form the front and help develop more leaders!

BoM:

After a year of F3 YHC is in the best shape I have been in since I was 22. Things got pretty hairy for a while; skinny fat was where I resided for sure. I wasn’t completely out of shape, but I was definitely chubby, slow and winded often. F3 has gone a long way towards turning that around. The biggest change for me has been to start to once again make the choice to do the harder thing. When faced with options, picking the one that will be more difficult, but will help to forge a better, stronger person. Man clichés exist, like pressure turns coal into a diamond, or hard times make hard men, but if we were to have a Griswold way to say it, it would go something like: Do hard shit and you get better at doing it, so just fucking do it. I encourage everyone to choose the harder road, and find at least one thing that you do regularly that sucks (and no, getting up early for F3 doesn’t count!).

Didn’t mention it during the BoM, but I want to thank all of my F3 brothers for helping me get myself to being a better leader, more than the fitness, that has been the biggest improvement in my life. I am a better father and husband, I am better at my job, and I generally have my shit a little more together.
