02/02/2022 — – SLT Meeting #2

February 3, 2022

WHEN: 02/02/2022
QIC: Knope
PAX: Bellhop, Boucher, Bump Draft, Castaway, Cosmo, Moore, Nickelback, Nightshift, Uzi, Vice
ME HEADCOUNT: 11

Last month’s Shared Leadership Team (SLT) was really about getting our group organized, getting to know each other, and setting up the SLT. This month’s focus was really the first of two meetings to talk about our goals for the coming year. While I’d love to say we nailed down some goals and here’s what they are, the conversation last night was robust, talking through several points and getting us close to some great work for the coming months.

Your SLT members worked between meetings to identify some key issues that have come up and/or they’ve had on their minds. I categorized and lumped some together and we talked them through. The work between now and our second episode of goal setting will be to finalize and wordsmith the goals and initiatives, so they’re ready to present to you after our March meeting.

Being part of the first SLT is new to all of us, and much like F3, we’re building the road as we travel it. The HIMs that are a part of the SLT, are all committed to accelerating the entire region together. Each of us is there to represent every corner of Churham, and work on behalf of every PAX in the region. For the past couple months, we’ve had some standing items on the agenda. We always start with one member sharing their F3 origin story, and what keeps them coming out. Nightshift was the focus last evening and he told us about coming out the first time, then it being weeks before he came out again.

Another standing item is the roundtable, where each person reports out about their work in the past month. Here are some highlights from each of the positions:
1st F – Bump Draft and Cosmo – Tis the season for AOQs to change! Welcome to all of you that are new to the Q channel and thank you to everyone that has served in that role. The big news was the pending movement of Farmboys from the Carrboro Farmer’s Market to Hargraves Community Center, located in a historically black neighborhood. Thank you to everyone involved that are leading that charge and reinforcing our principle of being open to ALL MEN.

2nd F – Bellhop and Uzi – Be on the lookout next week for a fantastic 2nd F opportunity to be announced. They’re also looking at some regional event-adjacent 2nd F opportunities, keeping COVID in mind.

3rd F – Moore and Nickelback – These guys have put together some great ideas that for a couple region wide 3rd F opportunities focused on giving back to our community, and the mental and physical well being of our F3 brothers.

Expansion – Boucher and Vice – Not only are these guys thinking of how to create more AOs with other groups that have a parallel mission, they are working on ways to expand the F3 Experience for PAX by brining 1st, 2nd and 3rd Fs closer together in space and time.

Commz – Castaway – Taking social media to the next level, he’s working on a project using Slack and IG to introduce the SLT members to the PAX and working behind the scenes to get F3 Twitter going again.

Rucking Q – Rambler – Rucks up fellas! DFQ. If you’ve signed up for the RamRuck, get your dough in so the planning team can secure a Cadre or two and get supplies to make this thing go. Need to get prepped? Check out Ruck PT leading up to the event on Fridays. Fundraising info for the Michael J. Fox Foundation info will be out soon.

Weasel Shaker – Nightshift – I’ll not disclose the number of weasels that have been shaken in the past month. It has been a lot though. He’s been plugging into the F3 Nation’s Weasel Shakers to keep us in line with the F3 Doctrine. In his extra time, he’s been working to track down some of the PAX that have stepped away and catching up with some of the PAX on the IR to keep them engaged.

Nantan – Knope – As for me, I’ve taken some time off, and watched these guys go… Just kidding. Like Nightshift, I’ve been becoming more involved in the F3 Nation, our F3 Sector (NC and SC), and making some connections within the RDU area. I’ve been doing the support work for the SLT, getting to know more PAX, and jumping in where the SLT or PAX need me. I’ve been giving updates to the SLT on COVID best practices from our local expert, Big Kat (thank you BK for your continued guidance for the PAX and your commitment to keeping our community safe). The most recent advice is, assume there are infected PAX at the workout and take sufficient steps to reasonably reduce the risk of transmission. If a PAX tests positive, we should all feel comfortable knowing that during the workout we did the best we could to prevent the spread.

After we made it through the updates, we jumped into goals for the year. Many of these were easy with input from everyone and were unanimously supported. Some highlights of the discussion and things to look forward to include:
-More support for AOQs and QICs related to safety during workouts
-QSchool
-Town Hall/Informative 2nd Fs with the SLT
-Working towards developing opportunities for Shield Locks
-Coordinated community service opportunities
-Supporting mental health and wellbeing for the PAX and their families
-More ruck opportunities
-Retaining PAX and helping guys on the IR recover and staying involved while rehabbing.
-More details on these items will be available after we finalize things, I thank you in advance for your patience.

According to FDR, “A smooth sea never made a good sailor.” I’d suggest that having every conversation go smoothly will not make a good SLT. Last night we had some tough discussions with no resolutions. Although these HIMS didn’t see eye to eye on certain topics, they were able to set it aside and continue on to others. As we work together, I anticipate more discussions where we don’t all agree. However, I am confident in these men and that they’re each looking to accelerate our region. As the waters get choppy, I’m confident that these guys will navigate us through the tempest. Sail on Brothers.
