01/26/2022 Conjunction Junction – Càtch mé if ÿôù çàn

January 26, 2022

WHEN: 01/26/2022
QIC: Malware
PAX: Fish and Chips, Big Kat, Laces Out, Tricurious, Slug, Oatmeal, Yo Yo
ME HEADCOUNT: 8
COFFETERIA HEADCOUNT: 6

Before every Q, I ask my family if there is any particular activity I should include in the workout I'm planning. Without fail, my wife says we should do pliés. I don't know much about pliés, so I've never put them in my workout…until today.

Here are the basics as I understand them:
Apparently, French accent marks can go either way. They have acute marks (résumé) and grave marks (à propos).
Heels together
Toes pointed out
Tailbone tucked
Ribcage in
Go down slowly while pushing your knees out and keeping your heels glued to the floor
Come up slowly by bringing the backs of your thighs together

These are extremely difficult and really work your quads if done correctly. If done incorrectly, they feel like a silly squat. We did 10 in tempo. It was super graceful and no one grunted.

Standard Warmup ending in 10 pliés

3 Rounds of Big Kat's steeplechase
-10 burpess
-Run to the big hill
-Bearcrawl up
-Karaoke around the traffic circle
-Run back to start

PAX arranged themselves in finishing order to assist in selecting teams for the next event.

Broke into two teams with finishers 1, 8, 3, 6 on one team and 2, 7, 4, 5 on the other.

Team A is on one end of the parking lot loop; team B on the other end for a Catch Me If You Can relay race.
The first runner from each team runs a lap around the other team's station and back to their own. Runners pass the baton to the next runner on their team to continue the race/chase. The goal is to eventually catch up to the runner of the other team and tag them.
When not running, PAX were alternating between 10 Merkins, 10 Mountain Climbers, 10 LBCs, and 10 Squats.

We did this for two rounds, shuffling the teams between rounds. PAX run a lot faster when they are being chased.

Everyone was tired from sprinting, so we did a quick mobility break with some prone arm/neck circles.

Circle up for:
-5 Burpees
-12 Merkins
-25 IC Lunges
-50 LBCs

5 Rounds of Failure to Launch Style Squats
All PAX in low squat hold unless doing squats. Ring of fire style, PAX do 1 squat each, then 2 squats each, etc. We made it to 5 squats, although most of us broke position at some point.

Mary
-Flutters
-Freddy Mercuries
-Homer to Marge (one leg)
-An exercise I can't remember right now
-Side plank dips

COT
-Brief discussion about the need for PAX to model "modifying as needed". Far from being a problem or a distraction, modifying from the exercise called is a welcome form of leadership. By openly modifying to make an activity either harder, easier, or just better suited to your physiology on that particular morning, PAX provide an example to others who may be struggling and provide valuable feedback to the Q as to how the group is feeling.

-The PAX are my people. I'm always grateful to be a part of this group.
