01/18/2024 Tobacco Road – Cooking Up Some Sandwiches With the Boys of Summer

January 18, 2024

WHEN: 01/18/2024
QIC: Hutz
PAX: Cardiac, Count Chocula, Cosmo, Scapula, Pallino, TPS Reports
ME HEADCOUNT: 7
EC HEADCOUNT: 2

It was a chilly 23 degrees this morning.  Unfortunately, it was measured in Fahrenheit and not Celsius.  Given the cold temps, YHC thought it would be a good idea to conjure up some warmth with some trivia and some constant motion.  Cardiac rolled up to Startex in shorts, which provided all of the PAX with a momentary gust of warmth until we began.

Cosmo came in hot at around rep 20 of the Side Shuffle Hops, screaming that it was only 5:29am!  My watch said 6:30am.  You know how us lawyers love to milk those billable hours.  Cosmo admirably displayed a healthy dose of Serenity Now as he jumped right in at rep 21.

THE THANG
We mosey'd over to the turf field.  On this day in 1996, MLB owners unanimously approved this rule that changed which teams could play each other in the regular season.  What was the rule change?  Interleague play.  In honor of interleague play, we used the benches on both sides of the field to represent both the American and National Leagues.

Super Dirty 11s
Bench one – Derkins
Bench Two – Ierkins
Bench Three – Step Ups
Bench Four – Squats
Burpee in the middle every time you pass the center field.

In the interest of time, we cut short the Super Dirty 11s and mosey'd to mid field.  On this day in 1778, Captain Cook became the first European to "discover" the Hawaiian Islands.  What did he name them?  The Sandwich Islands.  In honor of this, we sandwiched High Knees around Air Presses.  We did 2 high knees for every one air press and went around the circle until everyone got a chance to lead.

After the sandwich break, we did 20 WWIIs.

COT
My grandfather died last week at the age of 96 years old.  He lived a successful life with lots of love from his family.  Even though our lives are busy with family, work, school, friends, and other stressors, take some time to call the ones you care about whether it be extended family members, friends, or PAX you haven't seen in awhile.  They'll be happy you took the time to speak with them and you'll feel better about making the effort.
