The Essential Spring Playlist

March 31, 2018

WHEN: 03/30/2018
QIC: Nickelback
PAX: Buffay, Toast McQueen, Pusher, Nubbin, Gibson, Virgo

Spring was in the air as the Pax gathered around “Old Glory” in Hillsborough. The 60-degree temperatures brought out the single sleeves and the smiles.  It’s been a long winter in the Northern Province of Churham. So YHC knew it was important to mark this occasion. It was so warm that Buffay made it with plenty of time to spare before the clock turned 0530.

Warmup

We moseyed over to the side parking lot across from the market. The Pax circled together under the bright parking lights. It seemed like a spotlight which was perfect for this particular morning. YHC setup a wireless speaker, tapped play, and the fun began. Courtesy of Apple Music, the “Essential Nickelback” playlist started blasting from the speaker. YHC simply stated this was going to be our consistent motivational playlist all morning.

  • SSH 20x
  • Merkins 10x
  • Prisoner Squats 50x (perfect timing as “How You Remind Me” concluded its last epic chord)

The Thang

The Pax was relieved as we jogged past the parking lot, toward the Riverwalk Trail. With headlamps leading the way, we picked up the Blistex Logs. We had 2 men per log with 1 man lounge walking while holding the speaker and headbanging to the hit “Rockstar.”

We placed the logs down at the foot of Stickwork, the pleasant natural wood art piece along the riverwalk path and YHC barked out instructions over top of “Someday.” The Pax tried to listen to instruction, but they were secretly mouthing the sweet rhymes from Chad Kroeger.

Stickwork Round 1: “Photograph

  • 1 Pax member does a loop of defensive slides around Stickwork, enters Stickwork and completes 10 burpees; he then reverse defense slides around stickwork before doing 10 more burpees inside until
  • The remaining Pax members on the log completing a rotation of curls and shoulder presses

Stickwork Round 2: “Burn It To The Ground

  • 3 Pax member does a loop of defensive slides around Stickwork, enters Stickwork and completes 10 burpees; he then reverse defense slides around stickwork before doing 10 more burpees inside until
  • The remaining Pax members on the log completing a rotation of benchpresses and flutter kicks

Stickwork Round 3: “Feed the Machine

  • 3 Pax member does a loop of defensive slides around Stickwork, enters Stickwork and completes 10 burpees; he then reverse defense slides around stickwork before doing 10 more burpees inside until
  • The remaining Pax members on the log completing a rotation of benchpresses and flutter kicks

**After realizing a tooth may have been chipped during log benchpresses, YHC decided it was time to fully state the disclaimer and move on to other workouts**

Ring of Fire:” “Animals/Too Bad”

  • Round 1- The Pax circled up in the plank position and one by one completed a “Scrum Jump” jumping from the plank to a squat position with palms facing out to the circle (4x)
  • Round 2- From plank position to completing 1 burpees (and adding 1 more burpess every time we went around the circle)  (4x)
  • Round 3- Back to the plank/squat hold ring of fire completed 1 circle rotation

The Pax grabbed the logs again and moseyed returned the logs back to bolas negras as we heard “If “Today Was Your Last Day.”

Mary

YHC wanted to deliver on some awkward Mary exercises since the Pax were obviously enjoying the playlist too much.

  • Suzanne Somers while Pax all looked at Nubbin (10x)
  • Reverse Suzanne Somers while Pax all looked at Gibson (10x)
  • Rosalita (10x)
  • Hello Dolly (10x)
  • Homer to Marge (10x)

YHC had no idea how long until the song “Million Miles an Hour” but it seemed like with the remaining time, some pushorama was the logical thing to do. The Pax held plank and rotated in 10 Merkins/Wide Grips/Diamonds until the final 4 minutes and 11 seconds concluded from the playlist and we were done.

COT

  • Hightower posting at TBL Saturdays for anyone interested in doing a clown car
  • YHC and everyone for Easter travel safety

Moleskin

No matter the weather, Q, or pax numbers it’s always going to be great at the Duck & Weave and across Hillsborough. Guys come ready to get after it, embrace the suck, and support each other along the way. Great work again. We poured one out for Fish & Chips who teased us with an SC and the promise of an endless supply of headlamps only to leave us without his presence this Friday morning. Fortunately, we made it through stronger on the other side-well played Fish & Chips.
