“Why then don”t you complete the work, if you have the right aim and I have both the right aim and right preparation? What is missing? The work is quite feasible, and is the only thing in our power…let go of the past. We must only begin. Believe me, and you will see.”
– Epictetus, Discourses
A lot of PAX can get weighed down by the burden of self-expectations – how many times you have to wake up early each week, how many workouts you want to do, how hard you want to go and how you are going to balance all these things with other priorities in life. I like the above quote because it is a fantastic reminder that often the hardest step is the first one. Just begin. Get moving, get something down on paper, take it one step at a time. The only prize is the best prize – the betterment of your life and those around you.
12 PAX sauntered in to The Big Dance for an all-you-can-AMRAP KB swing fest with a few Turkish Get-Ups for dessert for those so inclined. The enthusiasm of the KB group is contagious and spreading quickly! There”s nothing like a little waltz with Sweetpea and Binksy – or any size KB, for that matter – to get the juices flowing in the morning.
18 for the ME. After a brief warmup, we assumed a fellowship pace to the hilly neighborhood across University from TBD. We lunge-walked up the first hill we saw, and then we stopped for some backwards running hill repeats on the second hill.
5 round trips:
- Backwards run up hill: 10 burpees (non-escalating)
- Forward run down hill: 20 Merkins (non-escalating)
We picked up the six and did the final 20 Merkins in cadence with all PAX.
We then ran back to the tennis courts for some suicides:
3 Half-court/Full-court suicides with 20 tuck jumps and 20 jump lunges after each.
CoT/Moleskine:
Kudos to the Pathfinder group for the relentless (last-minute?) work they”ve put in. They”ve set up some challenging workouts and have welcomed all PAX for each. T-claps to T”eo and Coco for showing up and out.
Avalanche has set up a new AO, The Eagle, at Creekside Elementary on Monday mornings at 0530. Go support the launch next Monday. This is the first time Durham has expanded to two workouts on Monday (Devil”s Ridge and now The Eagle). T-shirts are being developed.
For those interested, the Spartan Race clan is setting up a weekly hill run. We plan to find EC and/or Saturdays and Sundays to run hills in the area. Any ideas for elevation are welcome, and any and all comers can join. Let Sweats know if you want to join the Whatsapp/emall list.
Prayers to Sawyer”s father, and Coco”s father – both have undergone treatments recently. We pray for their speedy recoveries.
Welcome FNG Ham hock!
