The Thang
We moseyed to Karen Shelton Stadium (Field Hockey) where we will host 4 rounds of NCAA Field Hockey including our UNC’s first on campus National Championship in 25 years.

We did 7 man-maker burpees in honor of the 7 NCAA Championships our amazing Field Hockey Program has earned.

We then completed 22 regular burpees to celebrate the 22 ACC Championships our amazing Field Hockey Program has earned.

We then moseyed to Dorrance Field the home of our Men’s & Women’s Soccer Programs and NCAA Men’s & Women’s Lacrosse Programs who have accumulated 31 National Championships amongst them.

First we walked across the end zone concourse and lunge walked in honor of our top ranked Men’s & Women’s Tennis programs who are set to host preliminary round NCAA Competition in mid-May.  We then ran a snake up and down the stairwells on the North side of the stadium.

We planked until all the PAX arrived on the field turf under the scoreboard.

We completed 5 Man Maker burpees in honor of the 5 NCAA Championships won by Men’s Lacrosse.  We 13 regular burpees to honor the Final Fours the Men’s Lacrosse Team earned and 16 merkins for the ACC Championships UNC has accumulated…who just took a quick trip to Syracuse and beat Syracuse in the Carrier Dome for the first time in 30 years!

We then moved to the Women’s Lacrosse wall to celebrate the Women’s Lacrosse team, who just won their 21st straight game, outscoring their opponents 369-140.

We did 2 Man Maker burpees for their two NCAA Championships, 12 merkins for 12 final four appearances and 8 squats for their ACC Championships.

We then bear crawled to the Soccer side of the trophy wall.

We did 22 Merkins for each National Championship, 30 wide grip merkins for each Final Four appearance and 27 diamond merkins for each ACC Championship.

For the Men’s soccer team, we did 2 double merkin burpees for each NCAA Championship and 8 regular burpees for each College Cup/Final Four appearance and 11 merkins for each ACC Championship.

It is important and valuable to do hard things…We are physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually evolved/designed that way.  In responding to the best approaches to staving off depression via non-pharmaceutical measures?  Dr. Chares Raison said in the Sun Magazine April 2021 Issue , “They are what I call “adaptive stressors.” Survival was difficult for our ancestors. You had to work for your food and shelter. If you have to run down your meal, or get to it before a scavenger, you’re more likely to be successful if your brain gives you an emotional reward for running.  Now, instead of spending six hours chasing down a gazelle, you can go to the grocery store and l buy meat, but you will not get the same emotional boost, because evolution paired that payoff with the hard way of achieving the goal. When we achieve goals via shortcuts, our achievements don’t fully satisfy, because we are deprived of those adaptive stressors. I believe this goes a long way toward explaining the ennui of the modern world.”

Thank you for helping YHC do Hard things!
