Post-Memorial Day Murph Tuesdays are brutal. I don”t know what left me in worse shape, the Murph or the 10,000 calories I consumed yesterday. After a BBQ spree yesterday, maybe a beverage or two, and a sampling of some fine desserts to top off the weekend, YHC was not feeling all too spry this morning. It is during these moments that he tries to remind himself of a subtle trick that he learned a while ago while training and cutting weight and doing other unpleasant things in the name of competition. It is this: turn it off to turn it on. That is, turn off your brain to turn on your body. That is it. Just do not allow yourself to think. It is an anti-meditative state in which you really do not want to be conscious of any single thought passing; rather, you just act. You get up, you brush your teeth, you do some chores, but you do not think. You can try humming to dull your thoughts. You just move. And before you can make excuses for yourself, “you”re too tired, you”re too hungry, you”re too slow, too old, you deserve a day off” well, there are you are, and there everyone else is. Time to get to work. How are you going to handle it? The hard part is already finished, so good on you.
7 PAX wanted to dance this AM. After a warm up, we rocked out 100 dips, 100 derkins, and 100 step ups, in 4 sets of 25 each, with very little rest in between. The heart rate was moving, and so were we.
The tennis courts gave us Usain Bolt. Each PAX sprinted to the end of the tennis court and back, and during that journey PAX repped out an exercise called out by the sprinter, counted in cadence by the guy behind the sprinter. We did two rounds of this, except in the second round we bear crawled, and wow, that was an odyssey! Exercises: single leg squats, LBCs, WWIIs, jump squats, burpees, flutter kicks, squats, lunges, low plank holds, SSH, people”s chair, and maybe a few others.
For Mary, we spent 10-15 minutes cleaning up the park. It was a mess after what I”m sure were a few rocking Forest Hills Park parties thrown this weekend. We left the park in better shape than we found it, so we were glad to do the work. T-claps to Choo Choo for providing the trash bags!

  • Prayers to Manchester families. We are grateful for each breath we take, grateful for each day we have on this earth. Life is fleeting. Please appreciate it.
