This Message Is Not For Everyone

February 20, 2020

WHEN: 02/20/2020
QIC: Brotox
PAX: Beaujolais, Bump Draft, Catskill (Respect!), Cricket, Nitro (Respect!), Splashback

Bump Draft has done a great job breathing new life into AMRAP and I was honored to Q there this morning. I even joked that people are going to start signing up to Q AMRAP just to get Bump Draft to make a video pre-blast about them!

Bump Draft and YHC assembled in the parking lot at 4:57 for a 5:00 EC run. We thought it would just be the two of us, but at 04:59:58 Splashback came squealing on with the Accord up on two wheels, getting there just in time to enjoy the party. The three of us headed of for an EC run and arrived back to the parking lot to find four additional PAX circled up deep in mumblechatter.

The Thang

Thang 1: we mosey to the cinderblock pile to collect four blocks for the workout and brought them back to the parking lot. The workout split the PAX into two groups. One group would remain stationary doing a cinderblock exercise while the other group completed a movement down to a cone (about 5 parking spaces) and back. Then the groups would flapjack. The combos were:

  • Squat Thruster / Lunge walk
  • Blockees / Bear Crawl
  • Curls / Crab Walk
  • Forward Raise / Side Crawl

After completing the four rounds, we repeated them a second time and then returned the blocks back to their rightful home in the woods.

Thang 2: this was something I had picked up on YouTube and I thought might be fun. It’s called the cone game and you can find the short video here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcL6WlcyBcI ). The idea is two PAX face each other in a low squat hold with a cone between them while someone calls out in random order the words from head, shoulders, knees, and toes but they mix in the word cone at some point. When the word cone is said, the first PAX to grab the cone is the winner. With 7 PAX, we had three pairs and someone to call the words and we just kept alternating for about 15 rounds. For a while, the losers got to do some merkins. Then we switched it up to the loser does burpees. Then we switched it up to the winner does merkins and the loser does burpees. It was pretty fun and managed to distract us from the fact the we spent a fair amount of time doing low squat holds. Also got to work on our reflexes.

Today, I let David Goggins take us out with a one minute video clip ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUqLtrPDsxQ WARNING: fully loaded with NSFW language!). His message: sometimes your motivation needs to be because no one else wants to f*cking do it. Until next time, aye!
