16 PAX made their way for a Floyd-inspired birthday themed workout. YHC promised a learning experience and also a puzzle to figure out today’s theme. YHC had given them 7 emoji clues on Slack yesterday and was pleased that the riddle was solved by none other than Nan tan Knope. You see, YHC turned 46 yesterday and was feeling a bit ancient. So I decided to find things that were more ancient than myself, thus the theme of today’s workout was “The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.”

Warm Up:

SSH x 20

Harvester x 10
Willie Mays Hayes x 10
Arm circles x 10
Reverse Arm circles x 10

Everyone grabs a rock and then mosey to the new turf field.

The Great Pyramid of Giza Egypt

Built 2500BC. Still standing more than 4000 years later.

The Thang: The Great Burpee Pyramid. What’s a greater pyramid than a burpee pyramid? Nothing. So as one of the PAX exclaimed as we started into this “I guess we’re doing this.” Yes we are. 10 burpees, 9 burpees, 8 burpees….to 1 burpee.

Outside the gate, grab your rock and wall sit while we pay homage to:

Statue of Zeus, Greece

41 ft tall statue of a seated Zeus. Erected 435BC. At one point was moved to an alternate location by local religious group. Eventually destroyed in a fire 5AD.

The Thang: Thunder rock wall sit. Because the statue was a seated Zeus, and because he liked to smite people with lightning….Wall sit with your rock. Thunderstruck is played. Overhead press with each “thunder.”

Mosey down to the intersection.

The Colossus of Rhodes, Island of Greece off the coast of Turkey

33 meters tall bronze statue of the Sun God, Helios. Guarded the port. Built 280BC, knocked down by an earthquake and ultimately sold for scrap in 653AD by a conquering force.

The Thang: You can’t be a Colossus without massive arms:

33 curls
33 rows
33 triceps

Put the rock back in the pile and mosey to the playground.

Hanging Gardens of Babylon

Somewhere in Mesopotamia, Iraq on the Euphrates. Built 600BC, gone by 1AD. Large, multi-level garden with trees and plants hanging over the edges built by King Nebuchadnezzar II to help remind his wife of her lush homeland. This needed a big water supply so water was brought up by using Archimedes screw or a water wheel.

The Thang: The Hanging Archimedes Screw. Two lines 8 PAX each. PAX will either hang, knee up or pull up (their choice). First PAX does 1, next 2, then three, all the way to 10. Rotate to back when done. Reach 10 2 times.

Mosey to the Concession Stand (The Temple)

Temple of Artemis Turkey,

Built as one of the temples worshiping the goddess Artemis (Diana). Had a lot of columns like the Parthenon. Established 550BC, destroyed 262AD. Artemis, among many things was a goddess of fertility.

The Thang: Fertility stuff…

Balls to Wall, 30 seconds, Homer to Marge x 20

Repeat once

Lighthouse of Alexandria, Egypt

Erected in 292BC, was a 330ft tall multi-tiered structure that stood for almost 1200 years. Eventually it succumbed to earthquakes and had fallen by 1480AD. During the day, mirrors reflected the sunlight. At night, bonfires burned to keep the lighthouse lit.

The Thang: Walk up the Lighthouse. We didn’t have time for 330 step ups, so…50 step ups on wall

Mausoleum of Halicarnasus, Turkey

Large rectangular crypt, the tomb of Mausolus the ruler of Carnia. This is where the word “mausoleum” came from. Gross fact: Built by his wife (who was also his sister) after his death. It was a large rectangular structure, 125 yards in circumference. Built in 351 BC and fell 1490AD.

Bear crawl 125 yd rectangle, then lie in middle in Floyd Plank

Mary:

Flutter kicks x 46

COT- Thanks for another year of health and happiness. Please help heal our world of war.

Moleskin: Great showing by everyone today. Really enjoyed putting this together for you guys and glad you seemed to have fun. Except for the burpee pyramid.
