Several ECs/Pre ME things happening on this beautiful Memorial Day morning.  The Q decided to allow the PAX to fartsack a little more than normal and start the activities at 6:30 since it was a long holiday weekend.  Also, there would be one full hour of festivities followed by Coffeeteria at the Great Meadow Pavilion.

The Thicket’s Memorial Day workout was based on highlights from one of the best comedies from 20 years ago, The Big Lebowski, in YHC’s opinion.  A brief intro to the premise of the movie since one of the PAX had not seen it; essentially, a crime comedy based on mistaken identity. Partners were selected and then each pair determined which one would be the Dude and Mr. Lebowski for the rest of the hour.

*I am not Mr Lebowski, I am the Duplo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJjCnWm5cvE)

Accordingly, the warm-up would continue with some of the Duplo’s favorites:

  1. Prom night
  2. Sitting arm circles
  3. The Hammy

* The Pax took a mosey at medium pace to the Great Meadow Park which continued to provide a solid warm up.

* Not on the rug man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2WUEKrolco

The Pax divided into the Lebowskis and the Dudes.  Just past the sand volleyball court, they laid flat on the ground in a line.  When The Duplo said, “not on the rug man”, the Pax hopped up into a burpee recovery position and then ran about 5 steps and dove back onto the ground.  From this position, an exercise was performed until The Duplo said, “Not on the rug man,” and the Pax continued to the end of the greens.  Merkins, flutter kicks, squats, big boy sit-ups, LBCs, and scissor kicks were just some of the exercises performed when the Pax were on the “rug.”

*Another medium mosey but this time, the Pax headed to an often unused facility, Boulder Park

*The Nihilist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_29yvYpf4w  aka a modified Dora

While a Lebowski runs down the first row of steps and back up, his Dude partner does the exercise.  The Dudes and Lebowskis combined for 100 merkins, 200 LBCs, and 300 squats per pair.

* Gutter balls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHAGbD3dlhE — aka tunnel of love along side the bocce courts.  The Pax was reminded that in bowling it’s important to not go “over the line “ or there will be a penalty.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pd9opCGJK4

*Well, the Grunge was so enthusiastic with the workout since he’s been on the mend for a while, he fouled at the end of the Gutterballs so the Pax’s penalty was to do ball cleaning preparation—bowling balls for those brothers whose minds are already in the gutter.  Those who have seen the film know that the Dude’s upcoming bowling opponent has a unique way to Ball Cleaning https://giphy.com/gifs/the-big-lebowski-favorite-films-4sHCdcHhM7YM8.  It’s all arms so the PAX did a series of arm circles, seal and overhead claps and holds until YHC was surprised by some mixed company walking the dog.

* Another medium mosey back to Great Meadow

*You see what happens Larry, this is what happens when you f*c* a stranger in the a$$ aka Wilt Chamberlain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0kfe5tkdD4

The Pax lined up at the curb edge along the green and ran about 100 yards to the next curb where the Lebowski and Dude pairs performed 100 lunges; then ran the next 100 yards and did 100 Johnny Dramas ran another 100 yards and did 100 squats to finish up the workout.

*The Pax moseyed back the AO for Mary

Enjoyed the ability to indulge in a little silliness today with the workout theme.  But reminded the PAX of what the true meaning of today’s holiday is all about.  Please be grateful and mindful of the sacrifice that many before us have made so that we can do things like today’s workout.  Also, don’t forget to spend some time with your kids and families reminding them of the purpose of today’s holiday.  Aye!
