The Big Dance, New Tuesday Durham AO Beta Test, Southern Boundaries Park, Act III

September 13, 2016

WHEN: 09/13/2016
QIC: Sweats
PAX: Tuco, Shallow Hal (FNG), Floyd, Funny Money, Peach, Falwell

The second stop on the New Durham AO Beta Test Tour brings us to Southern Boundaries Park, home of a huge (6-wide) tennis court complex, a large parking lot, and a fairly big hill with a little surprise at the bottom of it. One almost feels as if he serendipitously finds three (unlit) basketball courts with multiple sets of bleachers at the bottom of the hill in, like, the most difficult possible place to find basketball courts at a park. Indeed, everything feels a little out of place at this site, what with a graffiti-laden, delapidated bathroom structure where you half expect to find Walter White and Jessie cooking up their next batch; next to these crummy bathrooms you find bounteous, beautiful tennis courts that seem fit for the ATP tour; next to these, you find yet another set of tennis courts (x2); and finally, the dagger is what it lacks completely: a playground or any apparatus appealing to kids or parkour enthusiasts, let alone F3 morning warriors. Alas, Southern Boundaries is a park with an identity crisis: it had a fever at some point, and someone in charge believed the only prescription for that fever was “I need more tennis courts!” Unfortunately, I don”t think this is our spot, but work out we must!
And work out we did. We made our way up and down the hill, and each trip took about 5-10 minutes, so this pretty much comprised our workout. It was brutal. I would say each (one-way) trip was between 150-200 yards, though I am no mathmagician when it comes to measuring the length of curvy paths on large hills in the dark while doing the following ridiculous exercises as my mode of travel.
Up: Bunny Hop

  • 30 Merkins (regular)

Down: Traveling Burpee

  • 20 Merkins (diamond)

Up: Lunge walk

  • 20 Merkins (wide-grip)

Down: Bear Crawl

  • 50 dips
  • 30 Merkins (10 regular, 10 diamond, 10 wide grip)

Up: Jog
Throw in a gratuitous seal crawl and an unfortunate duel between Floyd and the Fire Ants (cool band name!) and YHC decides to wrap up this thing.
Mary: 30 Flutter kicks; 20 Russian Hammer; Lots of elbow plank arm raises; 60 second low-hold
Moleskine: Welcome FNG Shallow Hal and welcome back relatively recently minted FNG Falwell.
YHC is out until next week. Time to taper for the Spartan Ultra Beast. See you next Tuesday at Solite Park, your next stop on the New Durham AO Beta Test Tour.
