That Was A Lot of Rain

January 3, 2022

WHEN: 01/03/2022
QIC: Brotox
PAX: Bump Draft, Cricket, Paper Jam, Maraschino, Spit Bucket, Rambler, Catskill (Respect!), Splashback, Marky Mark, Flenderson, Quicken (Respect!), Homegrown Berry
ME HEADCOUNT: 13
EC HEADCOUNT: 10
COFFETERIA HEADCOUNT: 0

It’s that time of the year again, the first Monday of January and my F3 Anniversary.  My Q on my 1-year anniversary brought decent January weather.  Last year for my Q on my 2-year anniversary, we dealt with some rain.  This morning for my Q on my 3-year anniversary, we had an absolute deluge of rain and wind with temps quickly dropping (from 59 at the start of EC to 44 at the end of ME 75 minutes later).  With the trajectory we’re on, I fully expect my Q on my 4-year anniversary to be conducted in the middle of a hurricane.

Fortunately for me, 12 other PAX showed up to help me celebrate my F3 anniversary, including Flenderson making the trip over from Carpex to celebrate his 4-year anniversary (my M would later say, “I can’t believe 12 other idiots showed up to work out with you in that weather!”)  Not only did we have 13 PAX for ME, an incredible 10 PAX showed up for EC work (6 for EC Ruck, 4 for EC Murph Training).  To avoid the worst of the elements, we stayed under the front foyer of the school for the duration of the ME (not that it really mattered, we were all pretty thoroughly soaked by that point).

So what’d we do?

Warm-Up

  • Butt kickers x20 IC
  • High knees x20 IC
  • Radish pickers x20 IC
  • Arm Circles x 10 IC each F & R (side note: YHC left out making them big at the halfway points and nobody questioned it, clearly the weather was having a quieting effect on the PAX this morning)

The Thang

For Thang #1 we built a pyramid of the following:

  • 50 SSH SC
  • 40 Squats SC
  • 30 Merkins SC
  • 20 WWIIs SC
  • 10 Burpees
  • At the top of the pyramid, YHC was planning to run a lap around the parking lot but the weather was just awful so we skipped it
  • 20 WWIIs SC
  • 30 Merkins SC
  • 40 Squats SC
  • 50 SSH IC this time (by #26 IC, I was wishing I had just called these SC)

For Thang #2 we split into two teams and YHC broke out the 12-sided exercise dice.  Each PAX took turns rolling the dice and called out the exercise it showed.  We also kept a team score based on the rolls (e.g. 10 lunges = 10 team points).  Before rolling, each PAX told the group about one previous resolution or goal they had set that they didn’t achieve.  For YHC, my 2021 goal was to read 12 books…I only made it through 4.  Side note: on the final roll of the game, Catskill needed 16 points to win and amazingly rolled a 25 (crunches)…the only 25 on the die!  The losing team was supposed to run a lap around the parking lot, we just did burpees instead.

Mary

It was cold, it was rainy, it was windy.  By 6:11am we had proven our mettle, no need to belabor the point with Mary.  Let’s wrap this thing up and get it to go.

Announcements

  • The Jag celebrates its 4 year anniversary tomorrow (January 4) and Homegrown Berry is announcing a new site co-Q to join in the fun there.
  • Tuesdays on Ice continues tomorrow and runs through February.  Accumulate at least 10 points to earn a badge.  Tomorrow’s forecast looks like it’ll be below freezing so double points are on the board.
  • The first Quarterly Report (4x/yr region-wide convergence) is scheduled for January 15th, 7-8am at the site of #jolly_roger (Riverside HS, Durham)

COT

The reason the QOTD asked about failed resolutions and goals is to remind the PAX that often times failed goals are the result of not sharing them with anyone else, not having anyone outside of ourselves to keep us accountable for them.  YHC encourages you to share your next goal with other PAX or with family members and ask they help keep you accountable to them–it’s a much more powerful tool than you might think!  Until next time, AYE!
