One of my favorite parts of Q’ing is the personal challenge of creating new ways to do the same old exercises. We work upper body, lower body, and core. We run for cardio and lift heavy coupons for strength. These are simple facts, and there is nothing wrong with a consistent dose of those “tried and true” exercise combinations. Like milk, it does a body good. And I like to drink several glasses of it a week. However, we mixed it up a little this morning at the Vortex. Yanni gifted me three 50-ft long fire hoses, and we put them to good use.
WARM-UP – SSH, Merkins, Windmills, Good Mornings, Merkins, and 1 Lap around the field
THE THANG
ROUND 1 —
PAX was split into three groups of six and each group was assigned a 50-ft fire hose with 80 lbs of metal tied to one end. Each team of six then created three smaller subgroups of two. Two men in each group took turns pulling the weight towards them for the 50-ft length of each hose until the 80 lbs, rest at their feet. This was done while the second partner jumped rope. The jump rope partner would then extend the hose out again to its full 50-ft length and repeat the process of pulling the weight towards their body. The pair kept rotating turns pulling the hose until they had pulled the 80 lbs all the way to midfield and back to the goal line where they started.
While waiting their turn to pull, the other four PAX on each team would complete the following rotation of exercises (continuously around the field, in a Vortex-like motion) until called upon by teammates:
- Crab walk the short sidelines of the field
- Complete 10 merkins upon arrival to each corner of the field
- Jog half the long sidelines and army crawl the other half
ROUND 2 —
PAX stayed as same three teams and same subgroups of two on each team. Each of the three groups was given a 35-lb plate or dumbbell and instructed to push the weight across the turf until reaching midfield. At the midfield, their subgroup partner would take over and push the weight back to the starting point.
While waiting for their turn to push, the other four PAX on each team completed the following rotation of exercises until called upon:
- Bear crawl the short sidelines of the field
- Complete 10 air squats upon arrival to each corner of the field
- Run the long sidelines
MARY
- Food Lion did a solid job leading the PAX in the completion of 15 side plank hip raises (both right and left sides)
- 20 WWIIs
We then welcomed the rain!
Great effort by all in attendance. Big shout outs to Rev Run and Fish & Chips for crushing the weight push like it was their J.O.B. Thank you!
