Real (Not Fake) History

May 7, 2021

WHEN: 05/07/2021
QIC: Brotox
PAX: Splashback, Boyardee, Chum, Germ, Cauliflower, Marky Mark, Paperjam

YHC opened #thewall Q sheet yesterday to see who had the Q and it was mysteriously blank so I figured I’d take the open slot.  One of the last times YHC Q’d at #thewall we played something called (unbeknownst to the PAX) Fake World History.  To make amends for the many blatant lies YHC told that day, we started this morning’s session with a round of real world history; read on to find out how it went.

Warm-Up

As the PAX circled ’round, it became clear the sky was not going to cooperate for this morning’s workout and we may need to spend more time than expected under the pavilion to dodge the rain drops.

  • Side Shuffle Hops x20 IC
  • Imperial Walkers x10 IC
  • Harvesters x10 IC
  • Slow Squats x10 IC
  • Arm Circles, Forward and Reverse x10 IC each
  • Slow Merkins x10 IC

Thang 1

By this point the rain had picked up a good bit and we had relocated to the pavilion.  The original plan was to do some running while we played Real (Not Fake) History but we stuck to a single location instead.  How it worked:  YHC had 6 historical events that happened on this day, May 7, throughout modern world history and it was up to the PAX to collectively determine what year each event occurred.  For every year off, we’d perform the prescribed exercise using perfect form (form week’s still ongoing, you know).  Minimum 5 reps were assigned regardless, and the PAX (mostly Germ) did surprisingly well with their guesses.  Questions and prescribed exercises were:

  1. On this day in what year did Germany sign unconditional surrender ending WW2?  Exercise: Burpees; PAX Guess: 1945; Answer: 1945.
  2. On this day in what year was the concept for the integrated circuit (the basis for all modern computers) published? Exercise: Merkins; PAX Guess: 1953; Answer: 1952.
  3. On this day in what year did Alfred Nobel patent dynamite? Exercise: Squats; PAX Guess: 1875; Answer: 1867. YHC really thought we’d be doing more than 8 squats here.
  4. On this day in what year did South Africa agree to multiracial elections as apartheid ended? Exercise: Burpees; PAX Guess: 1989; Answer: 1993.  Side note: Splashback remembered it occurred after the cinematic release of Lethal Weapon 2 (it’s crazy how our brains work, isn’t it).  YHC had a great idea for a future Q whereby we assess correlation vs causation in the world around us.
  5. On this day in what year was Vladimir Putin inaugurated as president of Russia? Exercise: Merkins; PAX Guess: 2004, I think; Answer: 2000.
  6. On this day in what year was the British passenger ship RMS Lusitania sunk by a German U-boat submarine?  Exercise: Squats; PAX Guess: 1917; Answer: 1915.  Side note: Splashback also recalled that the RMS Lusitania was indeed carrying ammunition on board (in addition to over 2000 civilian passengers), the basis for Germany’s justification for firing upon the ship.  Side side note: In wasn’t until 1982 that Britian finally admitted that the ship was carrying no weapons but was indeed carrying ammunition (which is part of the ship wreck, some of which was highly dangerous and posed safety risks to salvage dive teams).

Thang 2

With the rain still coming down, YHC had to audible the original plan to keep us under the pavilion.  We split into two groups and one group stayed under the pavilion to do exercises while the other group ran around the parking lot and back to the pavilion.  Exercises were things like dips, WW2s, lunges, derkins, etc.  We did complete some rounds at the pullup bars where the exercises were hanging knees to bar or hanging knee-ups or hanging pullups.

Mary

With exactly 6 minutes left we circled up for Mary and performed:

  • American Hammers x20 IC
  • Flutter Kicks x20 IC
  • Ankle Taps (Crab Cakes?, no one was sure of the name we’d given them) x20 IC
  • Gas Pumps x20 IC
  • Should Taps x16ish IC
  • Exploding V-Ups x5

Announcements

  • Chatham Habitat for Humanity, May 8th and May 15th
  • Reach out to PAX who don’t Q often or haven’t Q’d in a while and encourage them to get back on the sheets.  Offering to co-Q is always a good way to help make that happen.

COT

The upcoming weekend is Mother’s Day weekend, make sure you spend a little time to plan something nice for the mothers in your life.

Moleskin

Good to see Germ back out after an extended hiatus and good to see Cauliflower venturing back down to Chatham county.

I really do need to look into that idea for a correlation vs causation Q.  Stay tuned…
