Mom, where do burpees come from?

The temperature was pleasant enough for January even if the wind felt a little brisk at the start. That would soon change for the ten PAX who gathered in the gloom for YHC finally getting back to being the Q for Conjunction Junction. It had been a little too long and I was grateful and excited for the chance to lead this crew again.

I met Good Morning America for the first time and it made me think of this:

Warmup:
We moved away from the flag to avoid the early morning garbage truck that is a usual feature of the Junction and moved to the Arena. Finding a place with some shelter from the wind we did:

  • 25 cadence count SSH
  • 15 hillbillies
  • 10 Good mornings
  • 10 WMHs
  • 10 cadence count arm circles, one forward and one backwards

We then did three laps around the Arena, Ricky Bobby style. TriCurious is on the injured reservce list with a pulled hamstring so did his solo thing while we mosied.

The Thang:
We learned where burpees come from in the Arena.

  • Run to corner one, ten merkins and then back to the start, plank holds until all are back and then a bit more
  • Run to corner two, twenty squats, corner one, ten merkins, back to the start, plank again
  • Run to corner three, thirty box jumps, corner two, twenty squats, corner one, ten merkins, back to the start, plank again
  • Run to corner four, ten burpees, corner three, thirty box jumps, corner two, twenty squats, corner one, ten merkins, back to the start, pick up the six and plank again

We then moved to the back of Smith Middle to the area near the cafeteria we decided to name the Pit. 15 cadence count dips, 15 derkins, 10 steps ups each leg. 10 dips, 10 derkins, 10 step ups each leg. YHC got the count messed up on the last round, however less of more of the same.

Mosey to the front again for a looooooong crab walk from lamp post one to lamp post two. Pick up the six. A long bear crawl followed to the start of the parking lot, again picking up the six.

Mary:
Mosey back to the start for an impressive 50 cadence count flutter kick session led by Slug which took us nicely to 6:15.

COT:
Best wishes for Mate as he takes on his “not a race, not a thing, nothing to see here” trip with others who might also somehow show up to run through the woods on Saturday. YHC is grateful to be over the vertigo and back with this group.
