Merry 12 Days of Tabatamas

December 19, 2018

WHEN: 12/18/2018
QIC: Soybean
PAX: Banana Split, Crab Cake, Funny Money, Kia, Low Tide, Magellan, Roach, Soda Popinski, Soybean, Sweatervest, Toolbox, Weenie Roast

‘Tis the season for Qs to run wild with holiday-themed exercises, so YHC elected to join the festivities. Early working concepts for this Q included tabatas, Secret Santa and the number twelve. Mash ’em up and <voila!> you have “Merry Tabatamas” – 12 exercises completed in intervals of 40 seconds on, 20 seconds rest for 2 rounds per exercise, including mystery coupons brought by PAX for joyful sharing. But before we get ahead of ourselves, we must acknowledge Toolbox for leading 3 PAX (Crab Cake, Magellan and YHC) in a Cirque d’Coupons EC that strangely resembled the Q – 30 seconds of lifting, throwing, etc., 30 seconds off – with no prior knowledge (further evidence that Toolbox may be a prophet). As the bells of 5:30a rung out across the land (or, at least, Forest Hills Park), 8 more PAX joined the merry-making.

WARM UP
Seal Jacks x 15 IC
Overhead Claps x 15 IC
Windmills x 10 IC
WMH x 10 IC
Plank Jacks x 15 IC
Mountain Climbers x 15 IC

PAX were instructed to grab their Secret Santa “gifts” (aka coupons) and mosey to the tennis courts. All were greeted by holiday lights that brought great cheer to an otherwise dark and gloomy parking lot.

THE THANG
As indicated above, PAX were instructed to perform 2 rounds of each of the following exercises, 40 seconds on, 20 seconds rest, including random rotations and recovery runs around the tennis courts on the Ts. A very special holiday soundtrack accompanied the exercises, inspired largely by local legend Banana Split’s metal and punk preferences.
Day 1:  Merkins
Day 2:  Elf on the Shelf (lift coupon from the lower right to upper left with a twist, switcheroo)
Day 3:  Red Bull Elf Jacks (holiday-themed Smurf Jacks, double time)
Day 4:  Rows (the Q was so fired up, he forgot this one…)
Day 5:  Yurpees (clap merkin at the bottom, 2 tuck jumps at the top of a burpee )
Day 6:  Tree Toppers (overhead press)
Day 7:  Alternating Shoulder Taps
Day 8:  Box Cutters (optional: holding coupon above chest)
Day 9:  Air Squared (w/coupon)
Day 10: Tricep Extensions
Day 11: Alternating Lunges (optional: w/coupon)
Day 12: Slow / Speed Curls
Whoa to those PAX that bore the load of the heavy blue bag (OH: “What the he– is in this thing?”). A naughty, naughty elf snuck that one in the pile.

MARY
To continue the Secret Santa theme, we went round the circle with PAX naming and leading their favorite Mary as a gift for others who were greatly “appreciative.”
Flutters (Funny Money)
Windshield Wipers (Crab Cake)
Russian Hammers (Low Tide)
LBCs (Kia)
Makhtar N’Diayes (Soda Popinski)
Hello Dollies (Magellan)
Freddie Mercuries (Roach)
Monkey Humpers (Sweatervest)
Peter Parker Peter (Weenie Roast)

ANNOUNCEMENTS / PRAYER
Durham 3rd F opportunity at Beer Study tonight…but YHC is likely too late posting this to increase the RSVP list.
Prayers for Weenie Roast’s congregants that will be apart at Christmas and for the foreseeable future due to deeply troubling governmental intervention.
We’re also lifting up Mark Humphreys (friend of many PAX) that lost his wife (Amy, 45) to cancer last week.
Crab Cake asked us to keep in mind his aunt Meg, who is also battling cancer.
Lastly, YHC is en route to see his grandmother, who is in hospice; pray for Grandma Johnson’s comfort in what are likely her final days.

COT
Yes, ’tis a season of joy and new memories being made for many of us. For others, it’s a time of sorrow and offering solace. Whatever our state of life this holiday, let’s be a light for all who dwell in darkness, animated by the Spirit and inspired by the Son / Savior who was the ‘capital L’ Light of the World.
