Inaugural BaseCamp Ruck

October 21, 2017

WHEN: 10/21/2017
QIC: Rambler
PAX: chef_tell, moore, sirmixalot

A few months back, YHC & a few other Briar Chapel PAX began exploring the streets of BC on Saturday mornings, rucking about with our weighted packs, illuminating the gloom with our headlamps, stargazing, and passing around oddly shaped, heavy things from time to time. It quickly became apparent that this should be A Thang, as rucking is a great medium for both F1 and F2. With encouragement from chef_tell and grunge, and guidance from Markymark and Boyardee, YHC submitted a proposal to formalize this Ruck-centric AO, the first of its kind in Churham. Fast forward to this morning…

YHC and chef_tell were joined by two of our Northern brethren (from Southern Village..ironic?): moore and sixmixalot. BaseCamp meets at the Briar Chapel Clubhouse each Saturday from 0600-0800.  For today only, we would truncate the ruck to 0745 at the latest, to allow the PAX to migrate over to the Great Meadow for Stinky Pete’s 2.0 friendly Stinky’s Playhouse.

Warmup:
None; thus far there has been an  unwritten rule amongst the PAX that have rucked in BC that you either arrive warmed up, or use the first 1/2 mile or so to get the blood circulating. We may want to reconsider this…

The Thang:
We pushed north from BaseCamp, chattering away on an out and back up the gravel road to Mann’s Chapel and back. From there we headed around the majority of the perimeter of Briar Chapel, aiming to hit 7 miles within the 1 hour and 45 minute time allowance. At this point in the story, it is worth stating that YHC, along with marta and elf, rucked the Raleigh Capital Tour  the previous night. For YHC, it was CSAUP at its finest, as he rucked 4 miles Friday morning, 15 miles Friday night with a late state, a late end, and subsequently, zero sleep.

Taking all of the above into account, we cut the ruck a bit short, 6.2 miles in 1:34:26, averaging 15:14 minutes/mile.

Mary:
None; another current unwritten rule. This one may need reconsideration as well.

COT:
YHC kept it brief: capitalize on the accountability that we provide each other and continue to work on being better husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, etc. And, on occasion, do something Completely Stupid And utterly Pointless, it is a great way to challenge yourself and test your limits. Even better, do it with the support of your F3 brethren, for they will always come back to pick you up when you are near your limits and challenge you to push through those mental and physical boundaries. Until next time!
